This tests for age at marriage, age at death, age difference between spouses, age at birth of children, etc. and is useful for catching entry errors. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Key Surnames in our 3 databases... Individuals: 15,155,647 -- Surnames: 451,811 -- Databases: 3,924 (including the three listed below). This allows you to search all 3,924 databases for a specific surname. When viewing the individuals for that surname, if you scroll all the way to the right you will see the database name. If you click on the database name, you will get an information page on how many names are in the database and how to e-mail the person that submitted it. Move to the right on any entry to see which database it came from. Clicking on the database's name should bring up information about that database and the contributor. (Many people mistakenly think I set up GENDEX and e-mail me about duplicates and mistakes with individuals that are not even a part of the three databases I have posted!) NOTE: These databases are NOT 100% unique! The same person may be in all three databases listed below (and/or several of the other 3,921 some databases) with varying information. Try the other databases to see if they have more complete information on the family you are looking up. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Access to our 3 databases... Our genealogy database mentioned above has been converted from Gedcom to HTML by Eugene Stark's GED2HTML program. There has been much discussion about security concerns when making information available to anyone. I have chosen to generate our Gedcom file showing only the initials and birth year for persons born after 1929 for people who were concerned about security. NOTE !!!All the people born after 1929 are listed with a single letter surname that is listed before the full surnames that start with that letter. When you see a listing like E A E, it means the person was born after 1929 and this is their initials. The surnames enclosed in parenthesis e.g. Annie (AKINS) indicate the wife's maiden name is not known ... yet ... so we have placed her married name in parenthesis. Computers sort parenthesis before letters so these spouses are first in the listing. I suggest people use the PERSONS.html rather than the SURNAMES.html because there were over 24,430 surnames in the Kidron database at 319,750. (To search by Surname you can use the GENDEX -- Index listed above -- just remember to start with someone born before 1930.) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- The OMII Genealogy Project... The OMII Genealogy Project stands for the Ohio Michigan Indiana Illinois Genealogy group focusing on mostly Swiss Mennonite descendants. This is a working name as our research spans most of the United States and parts of Canada as families have spread out. The last meeting was held on September 18, 1999 at the Maplewood Mennonite Church (219/485-8512) in Fort Wayne, IN @ 10:00 a.m. The church is located at about 4000 Maplecrest Rd or at coordinates North 41° 06.996' West 85° 03.678'. To date the group has pooled together over 52 databases totaling over 1.3 million and are still working on options for combining the duplicate entries. Due to the requirement of Family Origins 8.0 that every place needs to be IDENTICAL before a merge will be performed, we would have to work through all 1.3 million manually to combine the obvious matches. Currently we have combined the databases (without trying to eliminate duplicates) and placed copies at the Kidron Heritage Center in Kidron, OH and the Behalt Amish-Mennonite Information Center near Berlin, OH. A goal is to also place the combined database at the Berne Library in Berne, IN and Bluffton College in Bluffton, OH after they expand their computer capabilities. Apr. 8, 2000, Kidron Mennonite Church, Kidron, Ohio - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Kidron Heritage Center The Kidron Heritage Center was dedicated in July 1994 to celebrate the community's 175th anniversary. The current hours are Tue, Thur & Sat from noon to 4pm (330) 857-9111. The first Swiss Mennonite families arrived in the area now called Kidron - then called Sonnenberg - in 1819. The center has numerous displays of art, crafts, Bibles, hymn books, tools, etc. that were created or used by the pioneers. The genealogy department contains hundreds of family books and the work of several local genealogists who spent decades recording information on the community's families. My wife Laurie and I started with a database of 1,913 Zuercher descendants from Anna Selfridge of Lima, OH on 6/28/94. We have spent the last 5 years now computerizing some of the Kidron area family books and "knitting together" the families as marriages are entered. Our working database was at 214,089 when Laurie finished. The job of inputing additions and updates will be passed to someone else during the next month or two. The Heritage Center has a Pentium 150Mhz computer running Family Origins 6.0 which allows the volunteers to quickly call up an individual and print crisp pedigree or descendant charts on the HP laser printer. Roger Geiser and Marie Hostetler are working with Family Origins 8.0 to explore the SmartMerge features and are exploring ways to reduce the number of places referenced by O.M.I.I. members in their databases. The SmartMerge will not merge records if there is even a period or comma difference in place names - and forcing it with the manual merge duplicates the birth, baptism, marriage or death events where the place variation occurs. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Sample Internet Search Engines...
