    1. [PaDgo] Finding York Will Information hiden from indexes.
    2. THEODORE E VONMECHOW
    3. First Thanks for the responses on Noel / Speace.. There were a number of questions how I found information not in the published indexes. PROBATE - PROBATE - PROBATE Many of the Indexes only have the person who died and the date filed. Some of the published indexes Also list the names included in the will. BUT THAT'S ONLY PART OF THE STORY As Paul Harvey would say THE REST OF THE STORY... is in the other papers. First there is those who did not have a will yet had assets. Look at the ADMINISTRATION The administration BOND may tell who the next of kin is I.e. Wife - children brothers or sisters. Then for both Wills and Administrations there are the other papers Inventory and distribution of money or settlement. Some times there are notes attached. All of these papers including the original Will not what was copied into the will book are on file by surname [not date] at the archive in York County. To find if the archives has a file you can e-mail them you need the name and approx. year archives@york-county.org They may tell you the have an index and will copy the pages but this is only the Wills. You need to find if there is an administration. They will e-mail back the cost of copying. It is $1.00 per page by mail and that included postage. If you go in person it is $.25 per page. You never know what you will find in these records but they should not be ignored. Some Examples of what I found from Administration [died without a will] #1 Mary Noel died in 1841 - Pastor who presided at funeral what he was paid. This led to the church records. The fact that she was sick and had live in help during illness. He inventory listed thing that did not belong to her. This was resolved in Notes attached to the administration. #2 Peter Noel Jr. Wife Henrietta remarried her new husband name Christopher Spease. Fact that the will of Peter Noel Sr. was not completely settled his brothers and sisters {8 of them} were still owed money. This also confirmed This Peter is the son of the Peter who died in 1771. Peter Noel Jr did not die in 1779 as previously reported. That was the date the Administration bond was issued. He died two years prior, in prior to Feb 1777 his wife had two years to remarry. In addition to Will and Administrations you need to check Orphan Court records, especially when minor children are involved or there are disputes in the Probate. Hope this helps I am four hours away form York and it is an overnight trip for me. So the internet and snail mail still works. Ted
