I hope the information I have can help you a little bit. For those who also are looking at the Holdeman/Haldeman genealogy, I hope the following excerpt from "Holdeman Descendants Volume II" (1973 pub.) can help you too: "The name Haldeman appears in records in Bern, Switzerland in the year 1538. Nicholas Haldeman, wife, children, and 2 brothers (Hans & Michael) came from Bern, Switzerland, by way of Holland, to Pennsylvania in 1727. Nicholas Haldeman died in 1762. His will shows he had the following children: John, Christian, Nicholas, Jr., Christopher, Barbara, Mary, and Maley Haldeman. There seems to be a little confusioin about the names of the children of Christian Haldeman mentioned above. There is a limited record that states John Haldeman (who died in 1815) and the Jacob Haldeman (who died in 1813) were sons of Christian Haldeman, son of Nicholas Haldeman." (Note from me,Rebecca: The author then states that he believes the lineage that continues is from John Haldeman, rather than Jacob Haldeman, not that he didn't exist too. If anyone has further info. to clear this up I would love for you to share it! Thanks!) "John Haldeman, son of Christian and Catherine (Begy) Haldeman, married Elizabeth. They had 5 children: John, Susanna, Catherine, Mary, and Christian Haldeman. (It is this Christian Haldeman's lineage that the book I have describes/documents.) Christian Haldeman/Holdeman, born November 28, 1788 in New Britian Township, Bucks County, PA, was married to Christiana Buzzard, born December 1, 1788, daughter of George and Rachel (Godshalk) Buzzard. In June of 1825 they moved to Ohio. He was hurt by his horses and died September 28, 1846. He is buried in Eight Square Church yard, in Eight Square, Ohio. Christiana (Buzzard) Holdeman came to Elkhart County in 1849 with her nephew, Christian Shaum, her children Susanna, Abraham, John, and his wife and child. The rest of her children came between 1848 and 1852, except Amos. Amos and his sons and families went to Jasper, Missouri in 1833. Christiana Holdeman died March 11, 1865. She is buried in Yellow Creek Cemetary which is southeast of Wakarusa, IN. Christian and Christiana Holdeman had 13 children. 1 died in childhood." The book I have then details each of the 12 children's families descendants in 12 respective chapters. Amos, Margaret, Jacob, George, Catharine, Samuel, Joesph, Jonas, David, John, Susannah, Abraham Holdeman. If anyone would like further info. on the above 12 children I would be happy to send it to you! I feel this book is a treasure my Grandpa left me and should be shared! Rebecca Hovde
