I just found a web site, http://www.geocities.com/youngscamp. "Roger's Genealogy Attic". The man has a complete genealogy, pictures of himself and his family, says he's the author of "TOday in History" site, all kinds of discussion about whee he lives, the farm his stepfather (not the same last name) operates... but no last name, one can't be found on "Today in History" site either, and no e-mail address; only a hoagy geocities form that says it's addressed to "youngscamp". I completeed it, who knows if he will get it or care? He has an extensive genealogy of Christopher Gottschall which the marriage record in Reading says was the father of Nicholas Gottschall who in 1758 married Elizabeth Nuss. Then, the records show that in 1771, Elizabeth the widow of Johan Nicholas Gottschall remarried to Henrich Wagner. That would make her my ancestor. Meanwhile, someone told me she found in one of the Berks County wills abstracts books that Nicholas Gottschall died in Reading in 1770, - but she didn't give me the information in the abstract, which of course would name the widow, tell if there were children, possibly name some of them, and name the witnesses and executors. Well, "Roger", or "youngscamp", says Christopher Gottschall came to Pennsylvania on 20 Oct 1747, no clue where or when he died. He had one child, Nicholas Gottschall, who was born ca 1740 in Germany, died 27 Sep 1807 in Jefferson County, Ohio. He married first Elizabeth Nuss, then her sister, Margaret Nuss. He doesn't state what allegedly happened to Elizabeth, where or when. Then he lists ten children born to NIcholas Gottschall and Margaret Nuss, most he says were born in Berks County, Pennsylvania; Jacob Gottschall on 11 Oct 1771, Pennsylvania, Margaret Gottschall b 1772, Pennsylvania, JOhn Gottschall b 02 Apr 1773 Montgomery Co PA d 12 May 1853 Berks Co Ohio, Maria Barbara b 03 Nov 1777 Berks Co, PA, Johann George b 04 Mar 1780 Berks Co PA, d ca 1856/7 Scott County Indiana m Margaret Albert in Jefferson County INdiana, and so on. He doesn't give any information on Elizabeth and Margaret Nuss the supposed sisters; I have from the marriage record that Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob Nuss who had died. Clearly SOMEONE died; all the children listed were born beginning right AFTER the death of Nicholas Gottschall the supposed husband of Elizabeth Nuss in 1770. One would guess that this NIcholas Gottschall who was still alive after Nicholas Gottschall was dead married Margaret Nuss around 1770 or 1771. I can't find genealogies on the Nuss family or the Gottschall's of Berks County anywhere - though I'm finding enough Berks County strays named Gottschall and Nuss! I'm not even sure I know how Nuss is spelled! Does anyone have any information that can shed light on this? Was there a second Nicholas or Johan Nicholas Gottschall born in Berks County? Is there a record of Elizabeth Gottschall's death? Who married Margaret Nuss? Did Margaret Nuss in fact exist? Did Margaret Nuss ever marry a NIcholas Gottschall? Did they in fact have ten children born in Berks County on the above dates and then go to Indiana or Ohio? Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
