According to EARLY SETTLERS OF LEE COUNTY, VA AND ADJACENT COUNTIES, by Bales he is listed as Jacob, but states he was baptized Johann Jacob and is listed as being born in 1755 to , son of Johannes Michael and Maria Barabara SCHMIDTIN DEVAULT.
