HOW DO I GET COPIES OF LAND RECORDS? You may use the NATF form 84 "National Archives Order for Copies of Land Ent= ry Files" to request copies of credit, cash, homestead, and mineral or surre= ndered military bounty land warrants files (Acts of 1788, 1812, 1847, 1850,=20= 1855). You may request one land entry file per form. There is also a pamphl= et entitled "Research in the Land Entry Files of the General Land Office" th= at gives more detail on federal land records. We are sending NATF Form 84 to your postal address, as well as the pamphlet=20= describing land records. WHAT LAND RECORDS DO YOU HAVE? The National Archives has custody of the land entry files for all federal pu= blic domain states. These are all states except the thirteen original state= s, Vermont, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maine, West Virginia, Texas and Hawaii. The= se states were never part of the Federal Public domain. Some of the original colonies and Eastern states also sold land and awarded=20= military bounty land warrants on their own. Researchers interested in such r= ecords should contact the appropriate state archives or historical society.=20= =20 Please Note: Federal land records document only the FIRST transfer of title= to land from the United States to another party. Records of later transfer= s may be found in county or State records. Please contact the appropriate c= ounty recorder of deeds, State archives, or historical society.
