The woman must be the mother of one of our HOLTEN/HOLTONs. 'Spencer' was used as a first or middle name in a family which traditionally used surnames of ancestors, as given-names. Schaffer, 87, formerly of Reading, died July 22 at 11 a.m. in the Berks Heim Annex, where she had resided since 1998. Her husband, David C. Schaffer, died June 13, 1998. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Snyder) Noll. Schaffer was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Reading. She is survived by two daughters, Carol A. (Schaffer) Kline, Cumru Township, and Beverly J. (Schaffer) Texter, Sinking Spring. Other survivors include a sister, Elizabeth (Noll) Freeman, Shillington, and two brothers, James Noll, Kenhorst, and Forest Noll, Reading. There are also four grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by a stepson, Richard A. Kramer, in 1946. Services will be private. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County. Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Mann, 72, Boyertown, died July 17 in Pottstown Medical Center. She was the wife of Bennie W. Mann Sr. Born in Peak, S.C., she was a daughter of the late June Sr. and Ruby (Suber) Tobias. Mann had been employed for more than 22 years by the Pottstown School District, teaching elementary students at Rupert Elementary School, retiring in 1990. She was twice awarded Teacher-of-the-Year in Pottstown. She previously taught for 12 years at Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Newport News, Va. Mann was a 1951 graduate of Drayton High School, Newberry, S.C.; received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Allen University, Columbia, S.C. in 1955; and completed additional courses at Penn State and Lehigh universities. She was a member of Pine Forge Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she was a deaconess for many years and served on the board of the Pine Forge Seventh-Day Adventist Elementary School. Mann was also a volunteer tutor at the church, vacation Bible school and Sabbath school teacher. She was also a former member of the Allegheny East Conference K-12 school board. She is also survived by two sons, H. Dave, Pottstown, and Bennie W. Jr., Upton, Calif.
