My dad, Jacob A. Hess passed away Dec. 2, 1999 and in process of cleaning out house came across two old photo albums from my mother's cousin Julia Uebelacker Sontag. In one album are pictures of Augusta (Bechler)Uebelacker (cousin Julia's grandmother) and some notations on others "grandma's sister (mother's side) One striking photo is woman in her 20's sitting in chair, man standing to her left with his hand on a desk, a 10-12 year old girl sitting at his right, a small 2-4 year old (not sure if boy or girl) standing in front of the girl and a young boy about 8-12 standing on his mother's left with his hand on her chair back. The picture was taken in Erfurt Germany according the German writing on the back. No date or names however. Another picture says "Bechler, grandma's sister" and she is seated alone on an upholstered high-back tufted chair with her right arm resting on a table. The Album contains family names: Ruhle, Keck, Nuricker, Deegan, Muller, Winterhalter. Hope this is helpful.

Two children of this Union Harriett Ruhle Robert Ruhle, died in the flu epidemic as infant. Edith Lillian Ruhle b. 06-01-1892 married John Patrick Harrigan on 08-25-1910. Leonard Ruhle married Frieda ? Harriet Ruhle married unknown Webber. Common names are John, Lillian, and Charles. My husbands name is Charles also... I am wondering if your John (son) could be our John with a daughter named Edith Lillian? I know that New Jersey was the main area for this family. Are there any dates on the photos, or towns? The oldest picture I have is of Charles Augustus Ruhle and his wife Harriet Coleman with two of their children in New Jersey. It is on my website at http://twicelovedtreasures.com click on my surnames and then Ruhle. Maybe you can compare Charles Augustus with the photos you have? Hope this helps... would love to see a connection as there are not to many Ruhles. Thanks Laura
Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=4780 Surname: Bechler, Bernhardt, Brown, Hess, Johnston, Keck, Knobel, Ruhle, Stecker, Uebelacker, Winterhalter ------------------------- My mom was a Uebelacker before she married my dad, Jack Hess. Her dad was Henry Uebelacker. Henry's dad was Christian Uebelacker. Christian and his brother Charles came from Germany around 1850 to New Jersey. They had a sister, Julia; not sure when she came to States. Anyhow, Charles married and had three children; Charles O, George D. and Julia. So my mom and Julia were cousins. When cousin Julia passed away in 1979 she left behind two very old photo albums. RUHLE is very prominently represented but I'm not positive which branch it stems from--Charles or his wife's. The Ruhle pictures are Elizabeth (Ruhle) Nuricker, John Ruhle, Pauline and Ernest Ruhle, John Ruhle(son), Lillian Ruhle (daughter), Fred Ruhle, Mary Ruhle, Hattie Johnston(e), Louise Ruhle. There is one picture of Ernest Ruhle dressed in a soldier's uniform--German army I think because the picture was taken by T. Kleiber at either Ludwigsburg or Cannstatt. Do you think there's a connection??

To All: We are in our final phases of compiling the second edition of "Glattfelders In America". This book will be published in July. However information to be included in this book must be received no later than June 15th, 2000. Major lines to be included in this book are the descendants of Johan Peter Glattfelder/Clodfelter, Casper Glattfelder, Solomon Glattfelder/Glotfelty, Jacob Rhyne, Johannes Hildebrand, several of the sons of Tobias Hartmann, George Boyer and all those that descend from the Glattfelder Family of Glattfelden, Zurich, Switzerland. Your help in this endeavor is appreciated. When "Glattfelders in America" was originally published in 1993, it contained about 21,000 descendants of the family. As of this morning we have 89,322 descendants of the Glattfelder family out of a total of 223,074 names in our database. To see what we had as of March 25, 2000 go to: http://midatlantic.rootsweb.com/familyhart/ Thanks! Don & Jeanine
