Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=4894 Surname: Asper, Chapman, Chandler, Conrad, Heidlebaugh ------------------------- Barbara: I found a John and Sarah Heidlebaugh listed in the Mad River Twp., Clark Co.,Ohio 1850 Census- they were both 52 yrs old- John was a farmer- listed living with them was my husband's g-grandfather- Alexander Asper- age 9 yrs. The census lists John and Sarah as being born in PA. Do you have any idea what the connection between these two families is? Why was Alexander living with them and not his parents? I have reason to believe that Alexander's parents and possibly the Heidlebaugh's came from York Co., or Adams Co.,PA- but haven't been able to prove that yet. Any suggestions? John Heidlebaugh was found in the 1840 Census for Clark Co.,Ohio- living alone. Can you help me?
Hello, My 3gr-grandparents were Paul & Catharine REITER_ROTH married in 1805 at The First Reformed Church in Reading, Berks Co. PA. Two children are also registered there : Thomas Bradley ROTH b. 08-07-1810 (Sponsors: Abraham & Catharine MEIER) and Sophia ROTH b. 03-27-1813 (Sponsors: Valentin & Maria EBLING) Another ROTH researcher (Eddie SMITH) has a Paul & Mary Catharine REITER_ROTH who were b. in Numidia, Columbia Co. PA. 1786 & 1787. They had 6 children: Joseph, Charles, William F. b. 5-5-1819 and daus: Elizabeth ROTH_HICKS, Kitty ROTH_RAWN and A. ROTH_YOST...sorry, no other dates. I have no record of the six children of P. & M.C. ROTH and Eddie has no record of my Thomas & Sophia. It is possible that Eddie's P. & M.C. and my P. & C. and all eight children are all from the same family...??? I saw the YOST surname on this list. Does anyone have any info on this A. ROTH_YOST?...or any of the other names I mentioned? I wondered if Paul & Catharine had other children before Thomas who may have died young...that's a five year gap between P. & C.'s marriage and Thomas' birth in 1810...??? Regards, Paul A. Roth

Hello again David - You're so welcome. It's a thrill to finally be able to contribute something to this list. I would love to get the information on ordering the "Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage" magazines. Thanks for the offer! By the way, Gerberich's "Brenneman History" has a great deal of information on descendants of Melchior (the Pioneer). Unfortunately, I only have photocopies of the sections that relate to general history and my direct ancestors. If you haven't seen the book, it's a goldmine. Elizabeth Strickler

Maria's father was Adam Brenneman (1700-1759) who was married to "Mary." Adam's father was Melchior Brenneman ("The Pioneer") (1655-1737), who married "Elizabeth." Melchior Brenneman's father was another Melchior Brenneman ("The Exile") (b. abt. 1631). There is a great "Breneman" website at http://gargantua.stanford.edu/~breneman/brenemans/history.html. The Brenneman "Genforum" (www.genforum.com) is pretty active and informative. I'm a descendant of Melchior "the Pioneer" through his son Melchior, Jr. (1718-1794) (Adam's Brother). I'd love to exchange information with any other Brenneman researchers out there. (I'm looking for STRICKLERS, and MUMMAS too.) Hope this helps. A paper at someone gave me from YCHS states that George BECKENER/BECKER was born in Switzerland at the Falls of the Rhine and had 8 children to his 1st wife and 7 children to his 2nd wife. He and his 2nd wife came to US bet 1763-1765. He settled in Paradise twp., York co PA. I think this may tie into my line but the copies I received did not have all of Daniel's 1791-1853 children listed so I cannot corroborate with my info. This is what I have on the papers.................... Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=4882 Surname: YOST, SNODGRASS ------------------------- I hope that this is the same Catharine YOST, though we know nothing about her parents' names. We know that she was born about 1750, so the birth date you have of 1752 seems very reasonable. We had always assumed that she HAd to have been born in PA, if not before their immigration, so Lancaster Co. also seems reasonable. I am assuming that you do not have any later information on her, such as a marriage record? Do you know whether Hans Casper YOST's family stayed in Lancaster Co. or moved farther west, and, if so, where did they go? The first son of William SNODGRASS and Catherine YOST was named Francis, a name which I have seen in many YOST families. Does this tie in anywhere with your YOSTs? I am sorry that it has taken me almost a year to find your response to my query, and thank you for writing it.
