I'm asking my questions more than one way in the hopes that more people who may know the answers will read them. I apologize if I forgot I've asked any of the same questions over the past couple of days. Adam Young/Jung of Exeter, Berks County, Pennsylvania, died in 1801. His will provided for wife Maria, son Adam (who he left his plantation in Exeter and who subsequently lived in Exeter), daughter Maria the wife of John Schneider, daughter Rebecca the wife of Nicholas Shell, Deborah, Christian wife of John Folweiler, and wife of Christopher Kissling. The will was written in 1794 with a codecil in 1796. It occurs to me that perhaps someone who knows about one of the daughters' husbands' families might know more about the parents. Does anyone know who were Adam Jung and Maria? An Adam Jung/ Young also attended church at Moselem in 1779 - and that one was married to Catherine at that time. This is always cute; ve have ze exact date of birth and allegedly an exact place, but no clue who were the parents. Allegedly, Eva Appolonia Young/ Jung was born in Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania, 26 December, 1721. With no source, I'm not sure she was really born in Oley. She married Peter Schneider of Oley and Exeter. Does anyone know who were her parents? Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! I would like to know who was the following Jung family. At Spiess Church, Ludwig Jung, son of Ludwig Jung, was born 10 Jan 1780, sponsor at baptism aws JOhn Olinger. At Spiess Church, in 1801, John Jung and Catherine, his wife, were sponsors for a child of Christophe Olinger. In 1807 at Spiess, Daniel and Susanna Jung were sponsors for a child of Daniel Olinger. In 1804, at Spiess, Daniel Jung and Susanna Zimmerman were sponsors for s child of Daniel Hartman. In Sep 1807, at Spies, Maria, daughter of John Jung, was baptized, and the sponsors were Ludwig Jung and Catherine Wagner. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Carol, Penman: I have seen Carol's file at Gen Connect and Penmanjc's posting to the Young list in July 1999 about Berks County Jung's/ Young's. Penmanjc didn't sign your posting, so I don't know your name. I'm trying to figure out who was the family of Adam Jung of Exeter who married Catharine Hoch in 1792. Though seemingly noone who has mentioned this man anywhere knows who were his parents, the will of Adam Jung of Exeter in 1793 suggests that Adam was his son, and says his wife was named Maria. Also mentions Maria wife of John Snyder, that was Anna Maria Jung woh married John Schneider, Rebecca wife of Nicholas Shell, Christina wife of John Folweiler, and wife of Christopher Kissling. Adam Sr says in his will he was a good friend of George Ritter, who also lived in Exeter. My Henry Wagner m Elizabeth and JOhannes Wagner m Susanna prob Liesz, lived in Reading, Alsace or Exeter, seem to have been immediate kin to Adam Jung and Frantz Ritter the son of George, and since it also appears Henry's daughter's husband Philip Burkhart was good friends with the Keim family, and with other families they would have linked to via the Keim and Schneider families, I gather that all of these families were closely tied together. I have to solve the links to learn who were Henry WAgner and wife Elizabeth. This requires learning who was Adam Jung and who he married. I also want to know who was Eva Appolonia Jung/ Young who married Peter Schneider, and had Barbara, who married Frantz Ritter. Allegedly, she was born on 26 Dec 1721 in Oley to unknown parents. I'm not sure it is known that she was born in Oley. I don't know how her exact date of birth is known and her parents aren't. Have either of you made any progress putting this family together, and do eithe rof you know who was Adam Jung and who were his parents Adam Jung and Maria? I learned that there was more than one Jung/ YOung family in Exeter. There was a family with a longer name, Jungin or something longer yet, that took the name Young pretty early. Church records make it clear that either there was more than one family in Exeter, or the one family that was there had been there for generations. Church records usually spell the name Jung. Wills often spell it Young, and Adam Sr's will spells it Young. I have alot of scraps of information on my web site at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/5127/fathersfam/burkharts.html and http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/5127/fathersfam/wagnerclues.html. I think I have a third file of pieces of info from church records, should be accessible from my burkharts pages. I took down Jung information mostly if it pertained to possible links to my Wagner's. I added Penman's information to my own scraps. Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Hi Margaret - The site you are looking for is: http://martin.simplenet.com/Cemeteries/LancasterCo./PequeaTwp/NewDanville.html . It has a photograph of the New Danville Mennonite Church and Cemetery, and directions. Only three people have signed the "guestbook" for that site -- me and two Shenks. There is a profile of a Bishop Henry Shank in the book "Mennonites of Lancaster County" by Martin C. Weaver, Mennonite Publishing House 1931. It says (I apologize in advance for the typos I'm about to make): "HENRY SHENK, of Conestoga township, was ordained to the ministry for the lower district in the early part of 1839. Preaching nearly four years as an assistant, he was ordained as bishop of the entire district June 5, 1843. He performed the duties of his office the Church over twenty-two years when he died suddenly on Sunday, October 22, 1865, at the age of 71 years, while seated on the minister's bench with others in the New Danville meetinghouse. The end came thus suddenly after he gave his testimony to a sermon delivered by Jacob K. Brubaker, a visiting minister. He closed with the statement that his brethren had taught the Word of God, in the true sense and meaning of the Gospel, and he prayed that the grace and love of God would abide with them as a blessing unto their souls. "His funeral was very largely attended, being conducted by Bishops Joseph Burkholder, his assistant in the district, Benjamin Herr, of Willow Street, and John Brubaker of Mt. Joy, from Heb. 13:7,8." There is also a profile of Amos Shenk: "AMOS SHENK, a nephew of Bishop Henry Shenk, was ordained as a minister of the congregations of the southern end of the district in 1864, and after the death of Bishop Brubaker, he was chosen as the bishop of the entire district on September 25, 1879, at Millersville. He served the Church faithfully for a while, but during the early nineties, he ceased in the interest of his privileges conferred upon him, and his official connections with the Church were recalled; he afterwards united with the Weaverland Conference. He died October 10, 1909, at the age of 77 years and his remains repose in Millersville Cemetery." Hope this helps. Elizabeth Strickler
In trying to use Richard W. Davis' unpublished manuscript of the SCHENK family of Switzerland and America, I have run into a stumbling block related to OTHER NAMES USED for the New Danville Mennonite Cemetery. I was able to find that that church had once been known as the Stone Church. I can't finda site I had bookmarked which had maps showing the location of ALL cemeteries in Lancastrer Co by name. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help. The family line I am tracing is trying to sort out if they descend from Christian Schenk ( b. 1662 Eggiwil, Bern, SWZ. d. 1724 in Strasburg Twp., Lancaster PA) or his brother Michael b. 1670 in Eggiwil. This family was born and raised on the "family farms" on Conestoga Creek near Long Lane. Comprehensive as Davis' manuscript is, I can't find ANYONE buried in New Danville Mennonite Cemetery! Margaret Shank ( Arvada, CO)
I visited he MO archives in Columbia, MO while on a vacation trip. We always plan a few days at variuos genealogical sites. We live in Las Vegas, NV. While researching in MO I got interested in the Mormon War as I had Missouri an cesters who were involved on the Missouri side and who also served with Quantrill in the Civil War. The Missouri State Historical Society has a publication titled Missouri Newspapers on Microfilm. It is about a inch thick. It is a great source for obits and small town news of a hundred years ago or more. I think it only costs about $15. State Historical Society of Missouri 1020 Lowry Street Columbia, MO 65201-7298 That should be a good source for those searching Missouri. The county Histories are not very accurate as they were a writers project for pay. You could also pay to have your name included, It was a matter of who could produce the best bragging rites. I read one where a fellow was a direct descendent of Commodor John Paul Jones. The problem is Jones is a added alias to Paul and he was a batchelor. Be careful with county histories. I know a lot of Breteren on MO were Dunkards. My Chaetham family went from VA to MO and were Dunkards in MO. I do not know how close that relationship is to the bretheren. Chas. Musser

When you use the "Reply All" button, the message should go to both the list and the individual. When you use the "Reply" button, the message should go to the individual. To be sure, check your message before you send it. You can always high light delete any address that you don't want to use. If the individual's address does not appear, high light and delete the address you don't want and type in the new address in its place. You may have to copy the e-mail address from up in the message header where it says "from". I deliberately sent this to you privately and through the list by using "Reply All" option. Both addresses were placed in the address portion of the message. You will get two copies of this message. One from me directly, and one through the list.
