I just found a web site, http://www.geocities.com/youngscamp. "Roger's Genealogy Attic". The man has a complete genealogy, pictures of himself and his family, says he's the author of "TOday in History" site, all kinds of discussion about whee he lives, the farm his stepfather (not the same last name) operates... but no last name, one can't be found on "Today in History" site either, and no e-mail address; only a hoagy geocities form that says it's addressed to "youngscamp". I completeed it, who knows if he will get it or care? He has an extensive genealogy of Christopher Gottschall which the marriage record in Reading says was the father of Nicholas Gottschall who in 1758 married Elizabeth Nuss. Then, the records show that in 1771, Elizabeth the widow of Johan Nicholas Gottschall remarried to Henrich Wagner. That would make her my ancestor. Meanwhile, someone told me she found in one of the Berks County wills abstracts books that Nicholas Gottschall died in Reading in 1770, - but she didn't give me the information in the abstract, which of course would name the widow, tell if there were children, possibly name some of them, and name the witnesses and executors. Well, "Roger", or "youngscamp", says Christopher Gottschall came to Pennsylvania on 20 Oct 1747, no clue where or when he died. He had one child, Nicholas Gottschall, who was born ca 1740 in Germany, died 27 Sep 1807 in Jefferson County, Ohio. He married first Elizabeth Nuss, then her sister, Margaret Nuss. He doesn't state what allegedly happened to Elizabeth, where or when. Then he lists ten children born to NIcholas Gottschall and Margaret Nuss, most he says were born in Berks County, Pennsylvania; Jacob Gottschall on 11 Oct 1771, Pennsylvania, Margaret Gottschall b 1772, Pennsylvania, JOhn Gottschall b 02 Apr 1773 Montgomery Co PA d 12 May 1853 Berks Co Ohio, Maria Barbara b 03 Nov 1777 Berks Co, PA, Johann George b 04 Mar 1780 Berks Co PA, d ca 1856/7 Scott County Indiana m Margaret Albert in Jefferson County INdiana, and so on. He doesn't give any information on Elizabeth and Margaret Nuss the supposed sisters; I have from the marriage record that Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob Nuss who had died. Clearly SOMEONE died; all the children listed were born beginning right AFTER the death of Nicholas Gottschall the supposed husband of Elizabeth Nuss in 1770. One would guess that this NIcholas Gottschall who was still alive after Nicholas Gottschall was dead married Margaret Nuss around 1770 or 1771. I can't find genealogies on the Nuss family or the Gottschall's of Berks County anywhere - though I'm finding enough Berks County strays named Gottschall and Nuss! I'm not even sure I know how Nuss is spelled! Does anyone have any information that can shed light on this? Was there a second Nicholas or Johan Nicholas Gottschall born in Berks County? Is there a record of Elizabeth Gottschall's death? Who married Margaret Nuss? Did Margaret Nuss in fact exist? Did Margaret Nuss ever marry a NIcholas Gottschall? Did they in fact have ten children born in Berks County on the above dates and then go to Indiana or Ohio? Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=5025 Surname: WEBER, WEAVER ------------------------- TO CONTINUE, Christian Weber (b ca 1707) and wife Anna (b ca 1710) came from Switzerland (REFORMED) and settled "near New York City" but I do not know where. Known children were: Hans (1728) and Christian (1732); daughters Anna (1729), Barbara (1731), Anna (1734) probably died young as they did not appear on ship's list with other family members. Christian Weber (Weaver)(born 1732) left will (probated 1816, Brecknock Twp, Lancaster Co) naming wife Ann (Anna Maria Dornbach married 29 October 1754 Waldschmidt- REFORMED), sons Jacob, John, Henry (married Eve, died 24 April 1851 Brecknock Twp, both buried Muddy Creek REFORMED) and daughters Susana (Peter Reist), Elizabeth (Philip Jung/Young), Mary (Henry Gut/Good married 24 October 1783 Waldschmidt REFORMED), Anna Maria (Peter Frey married 6 May 1784 Waldschmidt REFORMED). Any connections?
What people are finding out for me is taht a Nicholas Gottschall who was son of Christopher Gottschall married Elizabeth NUSS on 12 Sep 1758 (records of Rev. Waldschmidt), and a Nicholas Gottschall died in REading on 23 May, 1770. Then on Apr 2, 1771, an Elizabeth widow of a Johan Nicolas Gottschall married Henrich Wagner, who was apparently a widow on account of Sophia Seiwert (Seifert, Seibert, Seifrit, Shiffert, Zebert), who he married in 1769, didn't last. I haven't got confirmation of that. It looks as if Elizabeth Nuss is my Elizabeth Wagner, but it could fit more tightly. Henry Wagner didn't marry for the first time until 1769. His probably brother Johannes (they exchanged baptismal sponsorship of each other's children) married in 1777, and was born in 1751. If Henry was not younger than his wife, then if we speculate that possibly Elizabeth was 18 when she was married, then she was born in 1740 and Henry was born in or before 1740. That would make Henry 29 when he married for the first time, and atleast 11 years older than his brother. All perfectly possible, not highly unlikely, but I wouldn't mind if anyone can confirm it. Also, if Nuss was a name linked to KEIM and SCHNEIDER, it must have been a more obscure allied family. Does anyone have any information on Elizabeth NUSS, must have been born around 1740? Possibly as late as 1742, otherwise more likely before 1740. Are there other ways to spell the name NUSS? Like Ness, Neiss, Nuess, etc? I could SWEAR taht once upon a time I saw records or a list of the births of all umpteen of the children of Henrich and Elizabeth Wagner. Have not been able to find such a listing anywhere. Bonnie's excellent documentation on the information she sent me made me suddenly aware of what quite likely is the reason why. The Schwarzwald and First Reformed records that I've been consulting on that CD begin in 1781! Can someone please look up the children of Henrich and Elizabeth Wagner (Henry, Wagener, Waggoner) in those church records BEFORE 1781? More tahn likely, they are right there. I know that Barbara was born in 1775. Thanks alot! Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! Can anybody tell me who was Johan Nicolaus Gottschall, must have died not long before 1771, and who is Elizabeth who he had married? Must have lived in the neighborhood of Exeter, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Could have been Oley - I think the Gottschall's were there kind of early. If anyone with knowledge of Gottschall genealogy can identify Henrich Wagner who Elizabeth the widow of Johan Nicolaus Gottschall married, like, give him parents or something - then hurrah!
