Many PA Dutch, esp Amish, helped sons get their own farms and left the homeplace to the YOUNGEST son. Mr Daniel Hunziker of Switzerland is on vacation until August 7th. That's what he is telling you. He has set up his email to bounce back each message received to let senders know that. While this is a good thing for a business person to do, it is not the right thing to do if you are on a mailing list. People take note: If you use a vacation notice like this, please unsubscribe from the group while on vacation. JOY: Your messages are being posted just fine. Many PA Germans appear to have placed younger son into apprenticeship as the farm usually went to the first born. Where might apprenticship lists be found ?????????/ Where might Craftsman Guild list be founf???? Anyone: help please
Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=5072 Surname: Harter ------------------------- Most of my research starter abour 50 years ago as my greatgrandfathers younger brother would tell me stories about the harter family, show me the letters that he had documenting this harter family. Andreas Harter with his spouse Catharine (Zaner) Harter and their children Catharine, Johannas, Anna Maria, Dorothea, Matthaus, Andreas, and Jacob, all born and recorded in the church records in Werttenberg, Preussa came to this country in 1750. Peter, born somewhere in Europe, who is closely associated with Matthaus and Johannas with their land deals is the youngest brother. It took several years after leaving Werttenberg to reach America. Johannas (John) married Anna Mary and had John, Anna Maria, Jacob, Anna Catharine, Andrew and Matthaus Harter and were born in Berks Co., Penn. These names are entered on a probated will that Mary Harter author of "Harter History" discovered. Johannas George and his wife Anna Eva Miksell had their children mostly born in Bedford Co., Penn. I have yet to find any new world relationship beteen these two Harter families, although many of the Harters related in Wertenberg, came to America at different times.

Posted on: Pennsylvania Dutch Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/Dutch?read=5067 Surname: Boadwee, Price ------------------------- My husband is also descendant of Sarah Boadwee and Ebenezer Battell Price. I have photos, including tintype of her holding her identical twin daughters, Daisy and Rose. Rose was my husband's grandmother. Sarah and Ebenezer lived at Spencer, IN. In the 1850 Berks County, PA, census, Sarah J. is 11 months old and living with her parents, John (occupation drover) and Elizabeth. Sarah's death certificate gives her parents as John Boadwee and Elizabeth Neumeyer. John was a civil war vetran, and Elizabeth applied for a pension after her death. I have a copy - she must have been an interesting person!!! I would love to correspond and can send copies of photos or papers.
I would like to know the address of this society where my 6th great grandfather's bible was given to. If I could write them and have the information in that bible copied about Johannes STAUFFER b 6 Aug 1715 and died Jan 1767 and his family I would be ever so greatful. Thank you in advance, Norma Housman Holland of Kensington Md ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! I'm not related but I think there's a lot of them in Montgomery Co. Worth a try anyway. Marge Green
My apologies to those who have already seen this on another list. I had been on these two lists a few years ago but had to drop off. Now I have my own computer and am trying again. I have a real brick wall on my paternal grandmother's side of the family and am hoping someone here might be able to give me some direction. My father's mother was IDA MARCELLA SMITH b. 25 Sept. 1874, in Schaefferstown Pa. and died in Richland Pa. 5 June 1957. Her parents were LOVINA MILLER (1848-1884, b. and d. in Schaefferstown) and DAVID SMITH (b. 1849 and d. 4 March 1892.) DAVID SMITH's parents are supposed to be a JOHN PHILIP SMITH (b.8 March 1796) and an EDNA KRALL. I have not been able to find either of them in the Lebanon census. Nor have I been able to find any of David's siblings. My grandmother said she had three uncles in the Civil War, SAMUEL SMITH (who died in a soldiers' home in either Kansas or Nebraska), HENRY SMITH, killed in the war, and a third whose name we have lost. I don't know about other siblings of DAVID SMITH. The earliest mention I have of David in the census is 1860 where he is 12 years old, living with JOSEPH LAUSER and his family in Schaefferstown and going to school. In 1871 he is still living there and working in the LAUSER store. In 1880 he is married and living in his own household in Schaefferstown. So I guess my questions are: Does anyone recognize this fragment of a genealogy as part of their family? How do you go about searching military records if you don't have any regimental information and you have a name like SMITH? Does anyone have any suggestions for the next likely steps for searching JOHN PHILIP SMITH and his family? Thank you for any help you might be able to give.
