As I already told you, I think, some of these emigrants could have gone to Franklin County, Indiana. They had a lot of children and there must be descendants. Freigericht is composed of Altenmittlau, Horbach, Neuses, Bernbach, Somborn, and belonged in the past to Prussia. The region is strictly catholic - still today. Hasselroth is consisting of Niedermittlau, Neuenhasslau, and Gondsroth – and protestant. So when your Bechtholds are not catholic, it is not probable that they came from Altenmittlau. In the telephone book I found a lot of Becht(h)olds in Hasselroth. The following list was not made by myself, for these church records are difficult to read and in Latin. Emigrants from Altenmittlau to America in the 19th century >From the marriage register from the church records of Altenmittlau (now: Freigericht, 15 m East of Francfort in Hesse): (Abbreviations: b = born, m = married, em = emigrated, p. = parents, d = died. Sequence of names: family name, given name. Some of these people are related to one another, so it seems probable, that they emigrated into the same region. People from that region of Germany are catholics.) Franz, Christian, b. 16. Jan. 1806, p. Jakob and Christine, m. 19. May 1835 Spahn, Maria Anna, b. 26. Jan. 1813, p. I got this message by accident as I was surfing. I placed the query as a result of identifying my gggggrandfather using the 17th and 18th century naming patterns by assuming the first male child is named after his fathers grandfather. That is my gggrandfather Barnet/Bernard Fry/Frey named his 1st male child Charles. Typically this would mean Barnet's fathers name was Charles. However, I've identified a John Fry as the likely father of Barnet and John is what Barnet named his 3rd son so I assumed Barnet took a little license with the naming pattern. Barnet's 2nd son was James, the 4th was Jacob, and the 5th was Henry Peter. I have described this fully at <http://home.socal.rr.com/bigmo> Thanks for the response Charles. Ed Frye
