James' 1st son/child was named John. Not sure what either Irish or German (James' 1st wf was Polly K. WOLF) naming conventions were but just supposed that maybe James' father was a John. I don't know anything about the MCBRIDE origins, but James was born in Centre Co. and moved down to Venango at some point. Your German wf for your John is the only stumbling block I see, but maybe someone in MY family screwed up. (By the way, James' 2d wf was a German FRY. Were Irish women that hard to find?) These two >probably came to America in 1728 with their sons Clemens, Peter, >Frederick, and Abraham, and several daughters, whose names I can't >right now find. The family is closely allied with the HAUER family, also STEINER and GURTNER /GUERTNER, and from about 1790, with the FETTEROLF's whom I mentioned earlier in the ROTHERMEL / ROTHERMAL message. Is anyone researching any of these names? Do you know how they moved on into MN or did the DUNKELBERGER's below emigrate directly to MN from Germany, some time after the arrival of the first group of these names. The 1728 emigrants may have been Lutherans, or worse, in a Catholic state, and moving on to America to find religious freedom. What led the second group to MN, cheap land?
