YOU answered your own question, Cathy. You say a little prayer and send them out the door. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Be there to listen and encourage. If you did all you could, then that is all that is needed. It is their growth period now and it will come fast and furious, but it is theirs. The winters are bad, but you all have a sense of humor & that helps you get through the "storms of life"! That's what I remember about winters, watching out for your neighbor & helping out when you know you might be needed! And for boys it's a great way to make a couple dollars doing something for an elderly neighbor or just feel good! Wow, Mary great story of your childhood. I used to love to play in the snow, making snowmen in my snowsuit, & sledriding. I regret at times that my sons, are not where I grew up, but they'll I'm sure, someday, experience it in some capacity, & come & tell me. Or I might be fighting the snow with them too! We've been colder here, in Central FL, because you all got your storms lately. It was really warm in the 70's & higher, end of last week, & the winds came, & so I've been enjoying the jeans, sweats this year, now in the 50'60's, so WOW! I had illness in my little one over the weekend too, so I've had things going on here too! How do you all get over, letting you kids move out!? That's what I'm experiencing & be anxious & stuff any suggestions, other than to work to find a job!!. That's what I've decided I'm going to do, & perhaps volunteer again, at my church's thrift shop. At least for the rest of this school year! I guess if you look at it, everyone is experiencing some loss in their lives, just different things, jobs, children, & death! I had one of my older neighbors die, & my daughter went with me & not spent much since then. She has gotten the job she needs to get ahead of the game of life with a little grit & determination, so I'm grateful I've encouraged her & pushed too! Now let her spread her wings & fly. We were running out of places to put the stuff. I had never felt claustrophobic before - maybe trapped - is a better word. We had had two feet fall overnight, and the plows made a hard-packed wall at the end of my driveway that was about three feet wide and pickup truck hood high. I paced and paced and paced until the driveway was cleared out; and it was then I realized how trapped I had felt. The minute I knew I could get out of the house, even walking, all that tenseness and anxiety went away. I've not ever felt that way since. It was not a good feeling at all. When I was a kid, we used to get snowed in for at least two weeks every winter; and we used to have to tunnel to the barn to milk the cows. Helicopters flew over every day checking for any emergency situations and dropping supplies to people. We used to lay branches on top of the snow to spell out 'help' or 'SOS'. I remember my dad spelling out 'OK' with branches; and our neighbors had some of the first snow mobiles - Ski-Doo, I think they were called back then. They would pull a huge toboggan behind them and go from house to house taking shared supplies around. Some people baked bread; some gave butter, milk, and eggs; whatever any one needed, we shared, if we had it. Of course, tankers couldn't get in to get the milk, so all the farmers dumped whatever was not needed by others. My father also worked outside our farm as a master machinist. Can you imagine what would happen to him today if he could not get to work for two weeks? Today, there is too much intolerance of things not under our control; and too much tolerance of things that are. Together, they have bred the societal attitudes with which we must deal. Excellent words Connie. That was beautifully said. Yes, Cathy, you did answer your own question. Long story short...I went to counseling for a tragic loss in our family in 1998. then she got around to telling me I worry too much about things I can't do anything about. The kids moving out, them driving to work on I75 during bad weather/good weather, getting a divorce...just normal things. She is a Christian counselor..she said..Kathy, you know the best thing you could ever do for your kids?? What?? Pray for them that GOD is always with them. Just pray for them always, everyday. So, I do. I'm better, but I still worry...only I put it into GOD's hands. Funny, how you know that is what you should do, but sometimes you forget. It is so easy that way to handle everything that comes your way. Maybe this was a "TMI" moment, if so, I'm sorry...but I truely believe GOD gets us through everything when we need help. HI Kathy: I too worry about everything my friends tell me it too not to worry. It's just something you can't help. I just try not to let everybody know now that I am worried about them. Only my closest know that I worry but..... when they get worried about anything I am the first person they call. I guess they know I will worry with them and say a prayer for them too! So from one worrier to another have a worry free day Hugs, Sally ----- Original Message ----- From: "don/kathy" <dlewis10@woh.rr.com> To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 08, 2010 2:52 PM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Snow > Excellent words Connie. Thanks, Kathy. Took me a lifetime to learn it but helps with the grandkids. I was always pulled between helping too much or if I held off, being accused of not caring. That ever 'fine line'.
