To answer Cathy's questions....Mercer County is located in the southern part of WV...south of Beckley, WV, and about 1 1/2 hrs. from Roanoke, VA, and 1 1/4 hrs. from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Bluefield WV is a a twin city with Bluefield, WV...was once a booming coal town, but today is a typical small town America place to live! We have country food and country names like "Country Girl Road", and "Possum Hollow" Road, and foods like Ramps, and brown beans. People actually get degrees in Ramp Biology, and Ramp dinners here are like the fire company breakfasts in PA. Monday is still brown bean day, when women do the "warsh", and let the brown beans simmer from sunup to sundown. Ummm good! Wanted to say to barefootrebelgirl that I can relate to her delicious cornbread, catfish, collard greens, and SWEET iced tea - the only way to drink it south of the Mason Dixon line. Back to Mercer County...we have two towns/cities here. There is Princeton, and Bluefield, and the markets that we shop are Kroger and Food City. Our Acme closed about 2 years ago, and of course, we have Wal-Mart...what I call "Wal-Mart USA", since I feel that it is like a city within itself!! Not good for small town businesses that were struggling to make a go of it when Wal-Mart megalopolis came in. I am doing my genealogy right now, and I am actually related to Sam Walton so I had better watch what I say. It has helped a lot of people, but I have boycotted it because they are not carrying the organic foods anymore! My way of having a voice in this big, ole' sea of "commercialism". I really enjoy hearing about other parts of the country! Your hillbilly and PA Dutch friends, Sheila and Barry oh yes, we have eaten "good, spring ground hog, rabbits and squirrels"...country food! --------------------------------- Got a little couch potato?
