    3. I have a buddy in the list who sends me pictures of fasinating tombstones made to look like tree trunks. I have two of them saved, was sure I had more!!! Just took another look at them when you all were talking about these neat ones you've found. We have a "Historical Ghost Tour"...but I don't think they call it "Ghost" anymore, can't remember what they use now. Anyway, they have a few homes open for the tour. One is a holding a wake, while another holds a seance (sp?). The seance will be held in my neighbor's house_that big old Victorian across the street, that I helped clean when the former owners, my buddies Ralph and Leo, died. Last year they used her house for scenes from "A Christmas Carol". They take you on a trolley ride and tell you about the night of the terrific storm, and trolley accident which killed quite a few folks back in the late 1800s, early 1900s. They take you for a tour of the dungeon, under the Historic Market House, where the tour begins. It's the old jail of Columbia. They use to kick the drunks right down into a cell from the above sidewalk. They said one night in the jail (the old dungeon) cured many a drunk. Then you are taken to a couple homes and told stories from the outsides of the homes, and for one, they take you in the back and show you the autopsy slab which the doctor who lived in that particular home used in his practice. They tell you the story about the underground railroad, but the old Wright's Mansion isn't open that night for touring. They end with a Historical Account of the graves in the OLD Mt. Bethel Cemetery, where many stories are told of Civil War heroes, the rich folks of Columbia's past, along with the poorest of folks. There are actors all along the way, depicting life back then. It is quite interesting, and I am trying very hard to behave myself, so that I can go on the tour one more time, and I picked this year to do it, because a few friends want to go with us when we go_better now then later. And, since my neighbor's house is going to be in it again, this year, I want to go see what they do with her big room. I can't wait to find out when and what time the tours will be given. They are usually the weekend of Halloween, and the weekend before, and I believe from 6PM to 11PM or midnight? Not sure when I saw the last group go by in previous years. I like the later tour, because it's quite dark then, and there aren't a lot of people on the streets except for the actors. Better get ready for storytime :o) Have a GREAT day of chatter! :o) Lynn PS We're having company again today, so I won't be listing much, if at all. Cathy wrote: The stones in cemeteries are so beautiful the older one, above ground. There are some really impressive ones in the local cemetery that I always walk through, where my dad & other relatives are buried.

I have pictures of it and its quite nice. Rick B

    3. Is that the style of headstone known as the Tree of Life? I had one of those books of peculiar headstone phrasings. Some of them were oddball and others were outright hilarious.
