ah, salt---we don't use that out here in "healthy" CA. Sand is our only option. Salt might damage our precious plants. We did have a new Lowe's open not too far away, tho I would have needed snow tires to get there. ;-) Here in NorCal we're a little more used to changing weather. San Diego is a little more temperate than around this neck of the woods. It is the extremes we aren't used to. We are a good 15F-25F cooler than the norms for this time of year and having snow is not usually in our forecast at less than 4000ft. A teacher friend had class canceled for a snow day. They had to look up the appropriate codes, as "snow day" is never used at sea level here in CA. Biggest problem is, as was mentioned, no one knows how to drive in it. Locally, I think I heard of 10 people dead from hitting black ice----merrily going along at 80mph "as usual"---despite the many warnings on TV, radio and internet. I do know from scraping and shoveling---we were at Lake Tahoe a few years back---10ft of snow in a week...we actually lost the car in all that snow. Thankfully, we had the key fob and blinked the lights to find the white blob that was ours to dig out! However, the "sunshine tax" we pay for everything here is more than worth it not to have to shovel all the time. So far, we're warming back up to the 35-50F range...but we continue to have plenty of rain coming in. Finally, winter is arriving, we sort of skipped fall. Those of you with our storm coming in---brace yourself---it's a doozy! By the time this storm hits us, it will be worn out. We are in the snow belt. Southern PA. Love the snow. Lived in New England for 38 years and they at times did not have as much as PA. Depends on the areas, as always. Very diverse states. That is what I love about this country. You want it, we got it. Hope we can keep it.
