What a touching memorial, Kathy. Whenever my husband, who is a Viet Nam Vet, finds out someone with whom he is speaking served, he shakes his/her hand and says, "Welcome home." I, too, try to say thank you. They are all our Angels. No matter how old you are(62), no matter how "prepared" you think you are, no matter if it is time....it is never easy. My friends at work, and my kids, ask "how are you doing?" I'm ok, is the standard answer. Friends ask.."how did the sale go"? How were you with that? Sale..ok..but what bothered me the most was when different people bought mom's clothes.. I would look and remember..mom really liked that Christmas sweatshirt..mom wore that to church..mom wore that at home...mom loved that coat! One elderly lady, who you could tell, didn't have much..my sister Janie, "gave" her some really good deals. You should have seen the smile on her face! and it helped us knowing that those things were still going to be enjoyed. Mom took excellent care of her clothes. :) A WWll vet came to the sale with his family.... they wanted to buy mom's wheelchair...we gave them that and thanked him for his service to our country..Husband Don, shook his hand and thanked him again..the gentleman said...no one has ever really thanked me before. Don said..I'm thanking you now. I'm sorry no one has ever thanked you before. Our family has started doing that for any veteran we might run into or meet. We make it a point to thank them for their service. So, to any and all Vets on our list,....The Lewis family in Piqua, Huber Heights, and Englewood Ohio/and out at LeMoore CA....we thank you from our hearts, for your service to our country. One thing I like to think about is...mom is talking to Vee. :) They are finally able to meet each other. I would love to hear them talking about all their stories they have. Two Army gals having a drink and a long talk.. :) I have a pillow, given to me when we lost our granddaughter....it says.." MEMORIES ARE PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN WITH THE HEART".... Thank you GOD, for all my memories..... Thank you all. I spent three days at my Mom's bedside when she passed, so I know that same Blessing. I wish I could have seen and heard what she was seeing and hearing. From her reaction, they must have been beautiful sights and wondrous sounds beyond all our comprehension. One day, I know I will see and hear, too; as we all will. Until you join her, your Mother will remain with you in your heart. Now it is time for you to rest. Just because I've been quiet(not according to hubby Don) :) doesn't mean I haven't thought of all of you. I just haven't had too much time. Mom has been very ill in the last few years, but esp. in the last several months. My sister Janie is still here from Ala. and took very good care of mom, for the last 3 1/2 yrs.....as did my sister Mary Gwen, and brother John. Mom passed away on Oct. 5, 2009. She had a very peaceful passing. GOD blessed her and us with that great gift. Janie will be posting all of mom's info on the Platt.rootswebsite because that was mom's maiden name. Mom(Grace Evelyn Platt Tripp) was born in Patton Pa., on Feb. 13, 1917. If you want to read her obit in full, you can google Piqua Daily Call, Piqua Ohio OR Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua Ohio. I guess that is if for now. I'm still working, but I've had my hours cut, at my request, at the library. I'm still not up to par myself yet. :) Oh..before I forget...Rick..I've got some extra stale cookies if you want me to save them for our Christmas party. :) Hope to get back soon. with love, Kathy Piqua, Ohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russ & Sally" <scott1@embarqmail.com> To: "Richard Berkheiser" <reberkheiser@earthlink.net>; <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 5:15 PM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Hello and the Weather HI Pa List: I keep hoping everyone will come back. the one thing I've never understood is how service persons can be blamed for the conflict they were sent into. I try to make sure I thank folks who have served--there is no preparation out there to fully help folks manage what they experience in war. what I do want is that ALL service personnel come home in one piece, mentally and physically. So many cannot say that they have---which is what saddens me so much. Kathy---I do understand only too well---no matter how long a life someone has lived, or how expected their passing is, it is hard to say goodbye. Keep those memories with you---her clothes, how she wore them, took care of them, how you gave away some of your mom's things to help others---remember them, often.
