    3. I have these needles. They are ok, but you have to make sure you hold the thread at the eye when pulling through the material you are sewing. Otherwise, the thread pops out of the eye and it become Very Annoying Very Quickly. <smile> Mary -----Original Message----- From: padutch-life-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:padutch-life-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tracy Sent: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 2:23 PM To: padutch-life@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] being frugal My mom has self-threading needles. I have no clue how they work. I think my sister explained it to me, but as you can tell I did not understand it, or it went right over my head. I'm sure you can purchase in a notions/fabric store.   tracy --- On Wed, 10/28/09, Mary wrote: Cathy, I think a fun craft for you to do would be card making.  It is soooo much fun! and you can make any type of card.  I love it.  My cousin and I get together once in a while to make cards.  I have all kinds of punches to do decorative edges and shapes.  Usually I make Christmas cards for my 'special' gifts.  The nice thing is that you can buy every part you need to make them as plain or fancy as you want to get.  You can order kits on line, too. If you go to a store where they sell needles and sewing items (sometimes you can even find them in a grocery or small store), you will find needle threaders.  They are very tiny wire hoops that go through the eye of the needle, you put the thread end through the hoop and then pull it through. 2. I think we are talking 2 different methods here. There are needles with an open end that the thread slips into the notch. That one, of course is open. To thread a close ended needle, the wire loop works. Those can be gotten in the catalogs that come in the mail. You know, those notion ones, like Miles Kimball and such. Odds and ends where you can find all sorts of stuff. My grandmother had a thimble with the wire loop in a slide attachment.
