    3. Hello and welcome to all new members!! I am also a fairly new member, and I must say that the journey has been a FUN one...you never know what will be the next topic...let's see...we have had: Back yard stories, German lessons, Richard Reed's birthday celebration, The Keiser's leaving for the Ukraine, memories of our backyards, lots of little animal stories, and lots about wonderful food from collard greens to gumbo, to shoefly pie, sticky buns, and lots more!! It is so much fun!! Oh, yes, and I must not forget the 'IAM'T twist on our language. I truly have enjoyed every post....almost forgot the memories of Reading! And renovations on Lynn's house. I wanted to reply to Sally about the square in Wilkes-Barre, and her memories of the area in Back Mountain, Trucksville, PA. Yes, I remember Percy Browns, and Fannie Farmer's Fudge. They are both gone now...the wonderful Percy Browns cafeteria style food with great fried fish on Fridays, and so much more, including the delightful baked goods. Do you remember "The Old River Road" Bakery in South Wilkes-Barre, or "The Pierce Street Bakery" in Kingston, PA? They are also both gone now., but the square that you mentioned is still in existence. When the Agnes Flood hit Wilkes-Barre it destroyed almost all of downtown Wilkes-Barre, but the square was rebuilt with bricks and overhead, covered canopies to shelter pedestrians. It still has the "square feel" with one way traffic, and a nice courtyard in the center with a fountain. There is a Boscov's Department Store, and they renovated the theatre and now have "The Kirby Center for The Performing Arts"...much like the Rajah in Reading. It has been done in the art deco theme is just absolutely beautiful. Has some big names coming in also...so Wilkes-Barre can make claim to some great entertainment. The Hotel Sterling on the corner by the bridge was still there, but might have been torn down in the last few years. Wilkes College is now a University, and Kings College is still there. Millers Jewelry also closed, but Bartikowsky's is still there. Most of the downtown stores have moved to The Wyoming Valley Mall (where the giant sink hole opened a few years back), but downtown is still "downtown", and a great place to shop!! The F.W. Woolworth was, I believe the first one to open in the country, and the plaque is still there that tells of its heritage. I believe that Planter's Peanuts also had its start there in South Wilkes-Barre...and all those wonderful breweries that were a vital part of Wilkes-Barre are all gone now. Good memories!! 3. Wow Sheila: I forgot a lot of the stores you mentioned. Brought back lots of fond memories of times spent with my grandparents there. Hotel Sterling, my grandparents took me there on Very Special Occasions. And my mom made me Mr. Peanut for Halloween one year. I can still taste the vanilla fudge from Fanny Farmers. Oh I want some right now. It was the creamiEST! The molasses cookies from Percy Browns, my grandmother cut a shape out of one a day as my treat when I visited them. I want to be a kid back there. Thanks for the memories Sheila my friend in WV!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Kline" <sheilakline47@yahoo.com> To: <padutch-Life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 3:06 PM Subject: [PD-LIFE] NEW MEMBERS & LUZERNE COUNTY, PA > Hello and welcome to all new members!!
