About 33 years ago while living in Maine, my hubby and I experienced the Perseids or "Old Faithfuls" as the Maniacs call them. Wed were out for a night time stroll and heard whistling in the sky and say a shooting star then another and another. We just sat down in the field watched and counted. In 40 minutes we counted 102! It was spectacular! We live in Metro Atlanta now and the lights of the city and surrounding communities make it impossible to see them anymore. We both have very fond memories of that night.
