I make my own shopping bags. I have never, ever had a problem bringing an armload of bags into the store with me. The clerks here are very willing to use them, and many of them encourage them. If I don't have them and decide to stop for groceries anyway, I go without bags. Because they all know me now, they don't stop me, but I hold the receipt just in case. It is so easy to make shopping bags and does not take much fabric. You would be surprised at how strong they are, and how much they hold. I can put WAY more into one of them than I ever could into a plastic bag. Besides, the checkers used to only put a couple or a few items into the plastic bags because they rip, but the cloth bags hold a ton of stuff. They are cotton, not chemical-laden plastic, and if something gets spilled, I toss them into the washer. Florida isn't ready to rebate for bringing one's own bags yet, but I'm sure it is coming. Some other states have banned the use of plastic bags altogether. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynn Vondran" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 26, 2009 1:34 PM Subject: [PD-LIFE] Hmmmmm Cotton Bags! > Hi Connie, > How much were these bags? Well, Judy & gang, I was out looking for a job today & did notice one of the big grocerie stores, Publix, does have a sign out for people to bring their bags in! So it's starting here too. Do you suppose that they heard us? It's funny we've been talking about this, so now I notice, but don't always shop there, so perhaps that's why! Just thought I would update you. If they're doing it, then Judy if you have a Publix you can check in your area, too! I figure you do, or think so because Publix is all over FL, as well as Winn-Dixie's!
