    3. Yes, tracy I wondered if you forgot, & almost called I did write down your phone, but decided that you might have had enough of traveling, though it's tiring, sounds like you had a ball, but of course, driving all that way, i can't blame you for not stopping once you were on the road! Next year your welcome to stop, & who knows maybe I'll talk my hubby to go to Medevil times too, or Disney! We had talked about going there ourselves, we just haven't as yet! Sounds like you had a blast though! I admit it was alittle surreal you guys making it but tend to be alittle shy, that's all, but was really thrilled you made it! I was thinking of you after attending our local Pow Wow, since you had said you attend some too, yesterday. Hi List!    We had a really nice visit with Cathy and her family! I am so glad we were able to stop by for a bit. I'm sad because it could not have been for longer. We got a late start and then it took way longer to get to her neck of the woods than I thought it would. I called and said to go ahead and have dinner as I know she has small kids. We arrived about 830pm, had coffee and cookies and got to visit. Cathy is such a nice person. We kinda didn't know what to say to each other now that we were face-to-face. Had a nice visit and took a few pics (which I will try to post to FB and send Cathy copies). We left around 1020pm or so. They had to get up early for work and church and we still had a bit of driving to do.    We made it to Disney ( the place is HUGE!) and I apparently took a wrong turn and ended up driving around Animal Kingdom's parking lot! We were lost but a very nice security guard gave us excellent directions to our resort. We got to the resort and drove around looking for a parking spot. Finally found one and went to check-in. The cast members were all very nice and helpful. The girl waiting on us gave us some pins to wear. One was a Happy Birthday and the other was a "celebrating" pin. We had to go find parking for our room. Got lost again (their maps are goofy). Finally found a spot right up front and the closest to our room. There the car sat the whole time! Had a nice room with king-size bed and a really super bathroom! Bryan said I spent more time in bath and shower than in the room itself!! He's prone to exaggeration! It sure did feel mighty good to stand in a hot shower after walking all over the park for the day!!    Sunday we went to Hollywood Studios for the day. Lots to see and do. Monday was Animal Kingdom (I was a bit disappointed). They closed earlier. The tickets Cathy and hubby got for us were Park Hopper tickets so we were able to hop over (on the Monorail) to the Magic Kingdom for the extended hours and see that park too. We walked so much I got a huge blister on my right big toe. We rode rides and saw attractions, not all but the majority... gotta leave some for next year!! Tuesday was Epcot. Very interesting! No, we did not get into the big silver ball. :o( The line was really long and we just ran out of time to get back to it. Met some nice people there. One guy, Joe, is Canadian and took Bryan's email to send some hunting pics. Met a young couple on 1st Anniversary from here in Panama City! They were 20 and 21. She got all the way up to getting on the "Soarin" ride and decided she couldn't do it. I know how she felt. We did the astronaut ride and the "orange" line. I almost flipped out! I guess I'm getting claustrophobic in my old age! ;o) I was able to get through the ride and enjoy it. Won't do it again any time soon!!    We were going to stop by Cathy's to do lunch on our way home Wednesday. I was so tired and in lots of pain. I had said I would call and kinda forgot (Sorry Cathy!!). We were looking forward too getting home. 3 days at Disney was PLENTY for both of us, and Bryan had to be at work at 5am the next morning. I could not imagine going in the "season"! Most of the people/visitors were rude and nasty. They ran into you and looked at you like it was your fault. And the clothing get-ups were hysterical! Tank top, short shorts and mukluks! I kid you not.    Oops, I have gone on and on. We had a good time and are looking forward to next year (same time). Disney for a few days, Medieval Times for b-day dinner, back to Disney or maybe on to SeaWorld.    I'm taking a couple days to rest and catch up on emails, housework and "me" time. :o) tracy   ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PADUTCH-LIFE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Hi everyone! I'm not sure but I think Cathy Raber wanted this sent to the list. She's been having some troubles getting through. Rick B ------------------------------------------------------------ Subject: Tracy'zs visit with me! It was Great! She called to let us know she'd left alittle later than she expected & probably wouldn't be here until after the suppertime, so we went to dinner, & waited until they arrived. Of course, they turned off another road, & they called once they were in Leesburg. And darn cell phones! We had couple times that she had to call me back because of the signal! Tee hee! But must've given her good directions, because ended up pulling into my driveway! And she's sent me pics, so I recognized Bryan, when he got out! Tracy made me cold looking at her, because she'd still had her shorts on & was colder by 8 pm, but told her to come on in! And I'd gotten some coffee sitting, so when they arrived, I put the coffee on, & sat down while it perked! We just started chatting away of course! And the two hours went quickly, & they were great giving us a couple gifts of arrowheads that Bryan makes for the Indian Pow wows, so we had something more in common with them! There's one around here every year too! We were invited to perhaps go up to visit them sometime! And so by 10 I had to go to bed, because had to go to work & church the next day, so we said goodbye, with a possibility of having lunch on Wedensday when they head back to their home. So I guess we will if they want to! So took some pics with my camcorder & their camera, by Bryan & they took off! I guess we'll see them then. Cathy

    3. I usually cook from scratch as that is much healthier. Mother always did that and canned a lot of fruits and vegetables as we had a very large garden and plenty of veggies. We had some peach trees, my grandpa had apple trees, our neighbor had apricot trees and they did not like apricots so we got them. We also had grapes and elder berries that mom canned. Mom also made all our bread and butter. We got milk from my grandpa and she would skim the cream off and make butter. Of course, I usually got to do the churning. I do make bread, but not butter. I am, however, going to make butter one time to show our grandkids what that is like. We also raised pigs and chickens, and that was a lot of work. Don't think I want to go back to doing that! 2. I know the feeling, Mary. I did this also but never at the same time. Over the years. I can remember the pumpkins as we would then make the seeds eatable. My daughter did that for many years when she was married. No more. Too many things to fit into the time it takes out of your life to do it. There were not the continued upkeep of a home. You built it right the first time and it was many years before anything else was done. None of the constant updates that seem to have to be done now. It was the way it was and all you did was give it a good cleaning spring and fall. Your life was caring for clothes, cooking meals and baking, raising children. Each of these was important and think a lot more time was put into it so the end product was the best there was. But the key word here was you really had the 'time'. Very little outside shopping as you did it all at home. You had your garden for food and sewed clothing when needed. I maybe over simplifying it, but the manual labor was easier on the body than the constant stress we put on ourselves in this modern time. But I do think my generation lived in the transformation time from the old ways to the new. Of course, each generation goes through this, but the 20th century was a time of upheaval on many levels. When you stop and think of it, it really boggles the mind. At least mine. I once (this is the operative word) made my whole Thanksgiving meal from scratch. I went out and purchased a pumpkin, de-seeded it, cut it into manageable pieces and peeled it, then cooked it down adding all the spices for my pies. I bought cherries, pitted them, and cooked them down; bought apples and prepped them. I bought fresh squash and cooked it; baked bread from scratch and made my own stuffing; did my cranberry sauce - the whole nine yards. It was exciting for me to do it all from scratch, but my husband (God rest his soul) did not appreciate a thing I did. While I was proud of myself and everything turned out really good, I never went to that trouble again. It is very time consuming, but the reward of accomplishment was wonderful. 3. Cathy,    Now you're talkin' "Bryan language"!!! He really likes peanut butter cookies!!! :o) And coffee!    We're gettin' excited about coming your way! I've found some stuff out and am already planning next year! Maybe I should slow down and take this vacation first?    I'm up early and already got things started for the busy day ahead. Getting to bed early tonight so can get a good rest and start out early in the morning. Bryan had to be to work at 4am this morning but his boss told him at 6am to take the day and finish up stuff at home so we could leave. His boss says we are going to have a great time! Now I get to work Bryan silly today. He's been working so much and such late hours that nothing is getting done outside.     ******************************** We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner last night and had the dishes done and kitchen cleaned by 9pm. Dinner was late (par for our course!) but really good. My sister, Susan, made the gravy. She asked where the salt and pepper were. I told her on the table. Next thing, I realize she is putting salt in the gravy. I tell her we don't cook with salt in anything! She is done by that time and said we had to have salt, that one day wouldn't hurt. (This from the woman with CHF and on a sodium restricted diet.) Then everyone hears us talking and wants to know what is happening, we tell them our conversation and they all say (individually), " we don't cook with salt!". I think she got a bit upset with everyone getting after her. Her hubby cooks "no-salt" by only putting in 1/2 of the amount of salt!! I always swell so badly when I eat their food.    We set the table really fancy and I forgot to take any pics! I forget I have a camera. :o(   Have a great weekend Everyone!   tracy --- On Thu, 11/26/09, Cathy wrote:      May have to cook some more cookies for Tracy & Bryan's little trip to visit!  If I have time!  I'll have lots of coffee & donuts to offer when the arrive for dessert, & peanut butter cookies, at least!  Cathy

    3. Mary what do you do to grind? I have no grinder. Sugar to taste (I start with just a few tablespoons of sugar (or Splenda) and mix thoroughly after each addition) You want a good balance of sweet and tart. If you like, you can add the jello first and then add sugar. Add: (large size) 1 pkg of orange jello 2 pkg of Strawberry jello 1 pkg of banana or banana/strawberry jello Mix thoroughly after each addition and taste test. You can alter the taste by adding more of one type of jello than another. This is really good, quite healthy, and freezes very well for up to 18 months, maybe longer. You can make it even healthier by using real oranges and strawberries and/or low fat jello mixes. Do not use fresh bananas because they get mushy and they do not freeze well at all. You can also make a jello mold by making the different jello up together, then adding the cranberry-apple mixture to it. Just remember to use less water in the jello because the juice from grinding the cranberries and apples will replace the water. -----Original Message----- From: padutch-life-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:padutch-life-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Cathy And donald w raber Sent: Thursday, November 26, 2009 8:47 PM To: padutch-life@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Favorite Thanksgiving Dish Ok, Mary Love jello & would love to have your recipe for cranberries & jello! 3. Then is it like potatoes grated with onions, & stuck into the oven at what temps, like 350 degrees for like (guessing) 35 minutes? Sounds good, it really does, but need a recipe to start out with, can you add corn too lets say? Or other stuff? Suggestions please! Just like cranberries I've never experimented, but with a recipe to start, I'd try it sometime! I know when I was looking over my recipe for pastry, I was surprised that hardly no ingredients, i forgot. I cahnged my strategy this year, & since they have not a plastic tablecloth to be found any longer, i saw a heavier tablecloth with a fabric one too, so I just cut the plastic one to use, & I'm tickled to death with my end. Then I just used it to do my pies this year, instead of my cutting board, & oh so much nicer! I hope everyone had s great Thanksgiving this year! One of my pies is gone already! May have to cook some more cookies for Tracy & Bryan's little trip to visit! If I have time! I'll have lots of coffee & donuts to offer when the arrive for dessert, & peanut butter cookies, at least!
