I made Chicken 'n' corn soup today. We will eat it tomorrow after it has time to meld the flavors a bit. I'll make oatmeal rolls to go with it. It has been in the single digits each morning at 5:30. Hasn't made 30 degrees in about a week or so. This is the longest, coldest weather Georgia has has since 1985. Hey Everyone! I made bean soup today. My dad called and asked me to come in early today and when I got to the house I saw a bag of beans laying on the counter and thought that would sound good and warming for dinner. He then came out and said my sister called and suggested that I make bean soup for dinner if I was going to be there early in the day. I guess great minds think alike!! Also made a pan of pretty good cornbread. Yum, yum!! tracy
I have an idea. I will try to send some of the warm weather to all of you that have having so much cold weather and snow if you will send some of the moisture this way. If it stays warm like it is here, we could get it in the form of rain rather than snow! Don in AZ
Wish I could share this warm weather with you. Goodness, 33.1 inches of snow is a lot more than I would like to see! Haven't seen anything like that since I left PA in 1964. Well, I guess we did see snow like that in Germany in the late 60's and in Korea in the 80's, but not here. We did have about a half inch a couple weeks ago. I think the record snowfall in our town is 18 inches which was in 1977. We were still in Italy at the time, and we had the first recorded snowfall where we lived. It is 7:10 PM and it is still 55 degrees on the back porch. It was warm enough this evening that I cooked fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and curly fries for our grand daughter. It is supposed to be like this again tomorrow. I must say we are having above average temperatures, and no rain so far this year. We only had half of our normal rainfall last year, so we may be in a hurt come summer time. Sally, come on and make some chicken soup, sure sounds good. All went well today. They only found one small polyp and they removed that. Hopefully if I can get rid of this air in my body and get a good nights rest I will be at the church tomorrow afternoon and evening. Don in AZ
Oh I would love to be there with you. I will make you chicken soup to get you feeling your chipper self::: xox Sally ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Churchfield" <dctrk@c2i2.com> To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 5:13 PM Subject: [PD-LIFE] Weather > Sally, it is 77 degrees outside, beautiful day in AZ > > Don in AZ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > PADUTCH-LIFE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

Hi Mary: Ymmmmm Turkey Stew Soup!!! Sounds wonderful and yummy! My husband is a salt a holic!!! He puts salt on everything. I think he would even salt his potato chips if he could. I have high blood pressure and retain so I don't use any salt either. I am going to try your grilled cheese sandwiches, What a great idea! Then I can have my mild cheddar too, Thanks! We have about 6" on the ground and some light flaking due this afternoon. I have not been having a good few months physically, so I am glad there hasn't been much snow. After Christmas dinner, I took the carcass of the turkey and cooked it down to make homemade turkey soup. It put so much stuff into it that it turned out to be turkey stew. I like to make soup; and it tastes so good on those cold, winter days when the humidity drives it into your bones and you just can't seem to get warm enough no matter what you do. Home made is much healthier, too - at least mine is because I never put any salt into my cooking, then yell at my husband when he does. <smile> It was so funny on Christmas day when we all sat down to dinner. My husband jumped up and headed for the kitchen saying, "I need some salt. Anybody else want salt?" Every one at the table said, "No, thank you." or "I'm good". He never brought the salt back to the table. It was quite funny - to me at least. I don't think the whole scene registered with the rest of them because they were either busy talking or were head down eating. A good example of peer pressure taking place without any thing negative being said. Ha! Some of my faves for cold days are chicken soup and a sandwich; or tomato soup with cheddar chunks dropped in it for the last minute or so of cooking served with a grilled cheese sandwich. YUM! That is my most favorite. The tomato soup seems to stick to your ribs. I found a way to make 'grilled' cheese sandwiches that is much healthier than it would normally be. I toast two slices of bread and spread with Smart Balance, then add slices of 2% cheese and nuke it for about 20-30 seconds. The cheese melts and it tastes really good. Don: Have fun at your colonoscopy. I hope everything is good. I worked in our local hospital for 36 years and I told lots of people to smile for the camera!! So Don smile for the camera : ) I have a question I think I am not getting some emails. When did you get something from Mary abut Grilled Cheese sandwiches? I don't believe I got that one. What site was that from or was it a personal one? J am so nosy but my husband and I both love grilled cheese sandwiches with tomoato soup and always open for a new suggestion, I think I would love your vegetable beef soup too. I am a soup lover from way back. We travel a half hour for a little restaurant that makes the absolute best potoato soup. Only problem is he is always running out of it and we have been disappointed more than once. Oh on a cold day there is nothing better, I think he purees ham and cheese and of course there are chunks of bacon and potatoes but he just won't give anyone the receipe. Can't blame him I am not the only one that travels for it. Have a good day. About the Norwegian book, my sister had a lady in her church who was delighted with the book. She belongs to a Scandinavian Society and she wanted to take the book to their meeting. I couldn't resist a five cent book at a garage sale. It was published in1949 but has pictures taken in 1932 1nd 1933. Lots and lots of indexed names and identified pictures. Even a very worn large map. When I bought it I thought it was German, but a friend who speaks German said no. Because the price was listed in Kronan I checked the internet encyclopedia and found out the currancy is Norwegian. The book is very worn and has no covers at all. If you know anyone with Norwegian ancestry send me some names and I'll see what I can match up. I would love to see this book in the hands of someone who can identify ancestors. Hello All! I am still here in Newton, New Jersey ( the north eastern part of the state.) It is very cold. The weather report says wind chill is 2 degrees. All I know it is cold. And when it is cold I have this desire to eat. I had some butterscotch pudding and a bunch of potato chips, It better get warm or I will weigh a ton!!! I am trying to pack because I am going to a scrap book retreat for 3 days with my girlfriend in Richmond Virginia. She asked me if I wanted to go. She works for a scrapbook company part time in addition to her regular job because she loves it so much, She has gotten me started on doing scrapbooks and its so much fun. So I will be gone for almost 3 weeks. I will be making one for my daughter this time, I have already made one for my husband and one for a girl from Bavaria who visited us this summer. Wow Richard you sure do have a lot of snow. Is there an icing of ice on all your snow. Maybe we need to come up with a topic for all interested to put their input out via e mail. How about what is your favorite comfort food to have during a cold spell or snow storm. One thing that I have done with my family is to have a picnic during a snow storm. I have salads, baked beans, pickles and hot dogs and hamburgers, we put a tablecloth down on the floor in front of the big patio doors. Turn on the outside light and eat our summery picnic for dinner watching the snow fly!! My family gets the biggest kick out of having a picnic in the snow. The best part is no sunburn and no bugs!!! OKay who wants to go next with a little story or comfort food. Hugs to all and a Happy New Year filled with good Health and Happiness. xoxo Sally ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Berkheiser" <reberkheiser@earthlink.net> To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 10:59 PM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Any body out there??? > I'm still here! :-) > > We have over a foot of snow on the ground from several days of lake effect > and its been rather chilly. :-) > > Rick B > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Mary Sayman > To: padutch-life@rootsweb.com > Sent: Monday, January 04, 2010 3:21 PM > Subject: [PD-LIFE] Any body out there??? > > > Hey, List!
