I wish we lived closer to Lancaster County. It has been a few years since I visited there with my sister and brother-in-law. My sister made Civil War re-enactment costumes until she died, and bought a lot of her material in Lancaster County. While I was back east on a month-long visit, we spent a week there. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the scenery. Of course I had to have a fresh Amish pretzel more than once while we were there. My wife was not able to be with me on that trip and she has never been to Lancaster County, but I hope to take her there some time. Don in AZ

HI, Kathy. I can't believe your son had both done at the same time. What a chance that was! Here is what I'm taking: Prednisalone: to reduce swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions - 5 weeks Acuvail: an anti-inflammatory - 2 months Vigamox: an anti-biotic to prevent conjunctivitis - until it runs out - probably another couple of weeks. I now have a severe sinus infection or bronchitis or something going on. The Vigamox could be contributing to that, so I will ask if I can discontinue it when I see the doctor tonight. My mother never had anything more than eye drops for a couple of weeks, and I think they were artificial tears. Progress in medicine accounts for all of this. I'll be done with the Prednisalone in 4 more days, then I only have to deal with the Acuvail for another month. But today turned out to be beautiful. The sun is shining, there is a light breeze, and the thermometer is reading about 70* (but then it was a cheap-o thermometer from Wmart, maybe IT is wishful thinking!). Our weekend turned out to be gorgeous. Never did get the storms on Saturday (must have slid past north of us as we did hear thunder). Was a lovely day with sun and warm temps, in fact thinking of it now we've had 4 days straight of beautiful weather. Wish I was able to send to everyone and share it with you!!! Maybe I could take a few pics, download and put on FB. I'm not to good at it but could try. Trying to decide if I want to go take my turn at Mom' s tonight. My sister said she would do it if I wanted to stay home, but she did just stay the past 2 days. Decisions, decisions. Have a great day and I hope the weather gets better for ALL!!!! STay warm and safe! tracy

The storm that is leaving the East coast is slowing moving off shore. The storm that we are still getting snow from (3 days so far) is a Nor'Easter, which means counter-clockwise movement. They are always the worst types of storms here on the East Coast because they go out to sea, then come back inland with a vengeance. Where we are situated, that motion swings over the lakes and picks up even more moisture. We have had some windy weather here, but I'm sure the cities right on the waters edge are much worse. We are supposed to continue to have snow or snow mix right on through Monday or Tuesday. Today, it has been sleeting all day. Yuck!!! Our weather here today is overcast, with rain predicted for tonight and tomorrow. We are getting a slight wind, but nothing to be concerned about. There will be more snow in the mountains, but shouldn't get any at our level. There is still a lot of snow on the mountains above us, and it sure is pretty. Tracy, thanks for the prayers and well wishes. I am so glad to get this done. We are in Sierra Vista. That is about 70 miles southeast of Tucson, three miles from Fort Huachuca, 20 miles from the wild west town of Tombstone, the town too tough to die, and 15 miles as the crow flies from the Mexican border. HI, Don. When they did the cataract in my left eye about 4 weeks ago, I had them leave me a little near-sighted, which is what I've always been. My eye doctor suggested it because I am a shooter. I've always been near sighted, so it really doesn't bother me at all. It turns out that I am a little more nearsighted than I used to be, but I can see a whole lot better because the cataract is gone. I have less than one week of steroid drops left to do, a month of the anti-inflammatory drops, and anti-biotic drops that I have to use until they are gone. I haven't scheduled the right one yet, because it a very slow growing type of cataract and has not hampered my vision yet. The next surgery for me will be to fix my drooping eyelids. The left one is actually interfering with my vision, so I will talk with the eye doc to get that done. I can read without my glasses better than I did before. Hang in there, Don. You'll get there. It really takes a while for everything to heal up - at least 3 to 4 weeks. Isn't it cool after all these years to see without glasses? Good for you!!! I'm still here too. had cataract surgery on the 11th of this month in my right eye, and will have the left one done on the 4th of March. Getting used to this artificial lens they put in my eye and being able to see without glasses. Have to use reading glasses, though, and finally getting used to that so I can use the computer. Thanks, Mary. I am extremely happy with what they have done so far. My cataracts were slow growing also, and I have had them for several years. I have excellent distant vision with my right eye but do have to use reading glasses for fine print. I will still wear glasses as I have astigmatism, but they will be much lighter than what I am used to. I will be able to see well without them, though, as my astigmatism is not real bad. I was born legally blind, my right eye was 20/400 and my left eye 20/600. Any improvement in vision is a blessing. I am anxious to get the left eye done. It is kind of overwhelming at times now to be able to walk around the house without my glasses, but I am careful as that makes the right eye do all the working at this point. After Thursday I will not have to worry about that, and am really looking forward to that. I have worn glasses since I was 6 years old, so have worn them for almost 61 years, and it will be strange to not have to wear them. You mentioned being a shooter. I hadn't thought much about that, but I am going to take one of my rifles outside in a bit and look through the sights and see what happens. We have high privacy fences completely around the back yard so the neighbors won't see me with it outside. People around here like to call the police if they see a gun in the back yard. We can openly carry guns here and can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but they are trying to change the law where we don't need a permit to carry a concealed gun. I too am on antibiotics, steroids and anti-inflammatory drops. I have one more week of the steroids on the right eye, and will then have four weeks of using them on the left eye. I am using artificial tears as needed. I am anxious to get everything over with and the healing process complete. Don in AZ
I swear the Weather Channel said the East Coast was/is getting hurricane force winds and the barometer is down. Plus they're getting a low overtop that is spinning counter-clockwise. We're having some mighty strange weather this winter! Today is so-so. Sun is trying to shine, the wind is blowing with big gusts, the temps are down but not cold (yet). They say we are to have rain and storms all day. Thought we heard thunder earlier. Tomorrow is to be mid-60's and sunny. I sure hope so!! tracy --- On Fri, 2/26/10, Trish wrote: out here in NorCal we're hanging on to our hats with hurricane force winds and now rain...so glad we don't "get" hurricanes out here. I'm not exactly a small girl and got nearly blown across a parking lot--thank G-d for a pole I was able to hold onto or I might be in PADutch country by now!
