    3. One of my all-time favorite songs is the one that talks about gumbo: ".Jambalaya, pork meat pie, file gumbo, for tonight I'm gonna see my "cheramio", pick guitar, go hog wild and be gay-o, son of a gun we'll have big fun on the bayou!" Now, who made that a hit, it has been sung by several groups over the years. It's upbeat ("I'll give it a ten for the bet, Dick." ) and has accordion music, of course. Smiles, Anna

    1. Re: [PD-LIFE] More Southern stuff/okra/gumbo
    2. Gotta disagree on that....especially since even the word gumbo is derived from the West African name for okra~~gombo....every cook book I have calls for okra...now there are some that will use file powder (pronounced "fee LAY") instead, which is not added until just before serving, but most do call for okra....maybe cook books in the north don't call for it....an old cajun friend's Mamere (grandma) told me pointblank "no okra, not gumbo"....she is a hoot! -- Meddle not in the affairs of dragons for thou art crunchy and good with ketchup... -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Daniel Reinhold" <dreinhold1@comcast.net> > Look in any recipe book and you will find that most gumbos do NOT have okra > in them! > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Tracy" <better_than_good@yahoo.com> > To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, July 27, 2007 1:39 PM > Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] More Southern stuff/okra/gumbo > > > > > > --- Daniel wrote: > > > >> Lynn et al, Most gumbo's do not contain okra. > > ********************** > > > > Daniel, > > > > Then it is not gumbo but a soup, stew or whatnot. > > > > tracy > > > > > > > > > ________________________________________________________________________________ > ____ > > Sick sense of humor? Cathy~ Collards are considered "in" after the first frost, but they're actually available year round....check at Wal-Mart for either bunches (which you'll have to wash and strip yourself) or packaged...I usually get the packaged greens for convenience since they've already been picked over, washed, stripped and cut up...good luck! 1. [PD-LIFE] GOOD GREENS!
    2. Sheila Kline
    3. Been reading the posts about all these wonderful greens..I really like mustard greens, even though they are a little bitter, and turnip greens with "taters". What are the greens that grow wild around the corn fields? When I was a girl on our farm, we used to look for greens that were growing wild where we had just planted our corn. Maybe, they were the mustard greens. What are "creesey" greens. We had those a lot too, with lots of bacon grease that had been saved from frying the thick, home smoked slabs of bacon. All of these greens are really good for us, without the bacon and ham of course, but that's what really makes them taste so good!! I remember that we kept a used, empty can on the back of the stove to put all of the pan drippings in to use in the greens and for making country gravy!! It sure was good eating! Sheila Don't ever go to sleep being mad at anybody!! You'll always sleep better to get that burden off of you! --------------------------------- Luggage? GPS? Comic books? How about other areas? Love the Butterscotch Krumpets, and the chocolate Tandy Cakes!! And also wanted to say how sorry we are to hear of the illness from Anna!! God be with her and help her keep faith during this very difficult time!! Barry has had mouth cancer 3 times, and recently was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer...but he is currently cancer free after an intensive program of detox, restricted diet, and a lot of natural juicing!! He had 2 tumors on the right lung, and 2 in the lymph nodes, and they were all GONE when he had a chest x-ray 2 months ago!! He had to eliminate ALL sugar, (except in natural fruits & vegetables), all meat, all dairy products, and eat eveything organic that we could find in our area. He also did a detox program of a liver flush, and takes something called "Super Food Plus", and enzyme tablets that help metabolize the food he eats, and must be finished eating by about 2:00 so his body can digest the food that he was consumed. He also uses a detox tea about 2 x a week, and takes a capsule that causes the periostolic muscle in the intestine to work property...part of the detox program., and he is now taking Liquid Flax Linguens to help put some weight on him....best to put in organic cottage cheese, but we have not found the organic low fat yet, so he is using that in juice. He has lost a lot of weight, but I have lost 18 pounds by being on this diet with him. Please say a prayer for him that he will continue to be able to resist the foods that are so tempting!! He is now having fish or chicken (natural) 2 x a week, and using a sugar substiture called Xylotol...no Splenda, or NutraSweet because that is chemically processed....he has NOTHING that is chemically processed - only organic and natural...even the eggs are all natural from the Amish in this area, and he cannot drink chlorine water...we are buying bottled, spring water to use for drinking and cooking. His doctors are all amazed, and want to know what he did so that they can share with their colleages! Just wanted to pass this along to you. Cancer is a terrible thing, and when he had mouth cancer the first time, he had the max for radiation, so when he got the lung cancer, radiation was not an option, and where the tumors were made them totally inoperable....so what he did was a "last ditch" attempt.....what did he have to lose??? We also know that God has been the overseer in all of this, so Praise to Him for giving my nephew who researched all of this for him, the knowledge to help!! It does not work for everybody....there is a lot involved in it....but there are many success stories, and I just wanted to pass along his! It's called "The Incurable's Program" that cures!! I just keep looking and even watch the reruns :o) They DO help treMENdously :o) And remember to keep up the good work, and it is work, if you want to lose. Just make sure that if you join a health club, that you actually have time to use it. Otherwise, get yourself motivated at home and stick with it. Even if you just do 5 minutes here and there, do that 5 times a day, and you'll see results. There is almost NO excuse for NOT excercising. If you keep that in mind, you'll be on your way to self-motivation. Lynn Cathy wrote: > When is the "Biggest Loser" supoosed to come back on, anyone know! I feel > so much better for sure!
