    3. LOL!!!! Sheila! Oh my, I hope it was cooked first!!!!! Well, in reading your post, if it was in foil, I guess it was :o) WOW! We are blessed here in PA. Keilbasa is almost a bi-monthly, or at least monthly, food item here!!! Very Polish, very polish. It was at the Polish club, St. Cashmire's, were you ever there Sheila or Karen? Well, I was at a Polka fest there, and that is where I had my first taste of the stuff when I was in my early 20s, and I LOVE it, but it really isn't that good for you, unless you eat it in GREAT moderation. Ours is just waiting to be made into a soup or baked, and eaten. I have to wait a while before making it, because I just made, in the small roasting pan, that recipe of a little bit of water, a head of cabbage cut up, layered with frozen hamburger patties, and Brown n' Serve Sausages, with the Contadina Crushed Tomatoes with Italian Herbs poured over it, and baked at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. That will last me all next week!!! and then some. I'll bet Kielbasa would taste really good in with the cabbage in place of the burgers and sausages. Ooooooo, nasty storm is brewing somewhere!!!! Are you getting it first, Connie? Our power just surged, so I better get off the computer again. Just got on, from this morning! UGH!!!!!!! 3. Thank you! I loved seeing the lyrics -- the true ones! Pork meat pie was just our little German ears listening I guess! Gosh, I was all of 5 years old when that song came out and liked it as a kid-o (on the by-o)! I love the song, Jambalaya. Here is the information from the web about the song, including the lyrics. If you want to see the Cajun lyrics that came about, please go to the web site below to see what Clarence Cajun has written. You can also find information on Clarence's radio show schedule. History of Hank William's Jambalaya song Here are the words and song lyrics to the song Jambalaya done by Hank Williams Sr. Hank Williams Sr copied the musical melody from an earlier tune recorded in Cajun French called "Grand Texas". Although Hank Williams used the earlier Cajun melody, the words to the song that we know as "Jambalaya" was written by Hank Williams Sr. After Hank Williams Sr recorded his version with the new words, Cajuns re-recorded it with Hank Williams' words translated into Cajun French. Cajuns now consider the song to be one of our own songs. (By the way, Hank Williams mispronounced the word "Bayou". Hank pronounced it as "by-oh" when the correct pronunciation is "by-you". 3. Debra, I have to admit, I like to polka too. My dad used to take me to Pigeon Banquets, where the old men used to go around & take me dancing with them, & used to love it! That's one of my good memories too! I miss allot here in FL, being away from my family, though my dad is gone too, so that's won't change, & don't really see anyone from those days either!! When I went to OH I did see one of my dad's pigeon buddy's, which was so cool seeing his pigeons, & my kids liked them. 3. Hello All....have a funny story to share about kielbosi: While we were still living in PA in Dutch Country, and before we moved back to the hills of WV, my dad who was still with us just LOVED kielbosi, so every time we made a trip from PA to WV we brought along a big ring of kielbosi...garlic and plain, along with the ring bologna. Well, he really enjoyed it, and one time we noticed that ALL of the kielbosi was gone and we had only been back "home" for a short time. My son, who was about 10 years old at the time, started looking for the kielbosi because he liked to eat it too. Couldn't be found. We congregated to different areas, and started to talk. Well, I happened to see my dad reach under his chair and pull something out that was wrapped in aluminum foil. My son, saw it too, and knew that it was the long, lost kielbosi....so he said, "PawPaw, I want some of that kielbosi", to which my dad replied: "Now son, you can get all of this you want in PA, and I can only get it a couple of times a year....this is mine". Dad ate it....and my son did not!! We still laugh about that!! Cheers!! Sheila --------------------------------- Looking for a deal? Find great prices on flights and hotels with Yahoo! FareChase.

    3. Way off, cuz!!! It's more of a fun song, not IN the POLKA beat, or sound of a polka at all. I love to POLKA!!!!!!! But I loved this song also, and the minute I hear in my head the first note, I will know the song, and probalby who did it. I was working the beat in my head, as I read Anna's words :o) LOL!! And, I am so glad that you satisfied your tastebuds last evening, Sue!!! Yes, I can almost taste my friend's mom's collards right now. I'm so into raw kale and onion sandwich, or salads, it isn't funny!!!! I CRAVE raw kale!!!! I probably eat too much of it. Everyone said if I like it raw, I will like it cooked, and I DON'T like it cooked, nor in anything, no matter how it's made. But, give it to me on a sandwich, or in a salad, and I act like a little kid! Just kale, onion, and my quick, on the counter top of the kitchen always, dressing, which is just an inch of red wine vinegar, then fill the container with canola or extra virgin olive oil, or mix the two, and 3/4 tsp. of crushed red pepper...Mmmmmmmm!!!! Karen, I'm still working on getting back to you on Glenside :o) Gotta run and tell stories to my friends at the home, now!!! :o) Lynn PS Did Paul McCartney write that song Anna? I'm still trying to hear it in my head. Rick wrote: Isn't there a polka version to this song? Or am I way off base? Anna wrote: > One of my all-time favorite songs is the one that talks about gumbo: > ".Jambalaya, ...Now, who made that a hit, it has been sung by > several groups over the years. 3. http://www.robertpence.com/johnstown_06_p1.html --Debra -------------------- Thanks for the link! I'll check it out later! One of these times I'd like to go to Johnstown. We tried in 2004 but it would have put us off course for the trip home. Rick B

    3. I am looking for David P. Keehn who posted a querie on the PA Dutch board way back in 2000. I know---long shot!! I have been searching for this Haberacker/Haberacre family for a long time, and haven't had any progress for a very long time. Sure hope someone out there can give me a hand. Janice Danielson Iowa -------------------- Janice; Sorry. I struck out in the archives as well. All I could come up with was your nearly identical message you posted last February. Do you have the e-mail address David was using at that time? We might be able to find it that way. Rick B

    3. One of my all-time favorite songs is the one that talks about gumbo: ".Jambalaya, ...Now, who made that a hit, it has been sung by several groups over the years. It's upbeat ("I'll give it a ten for the bet, Dick." ) and has accordion music, of course. Smiles, Anna -------------------- Isn't there a polka version to this song? Or am I way off base? Rick B
