    3. Snowballs are at this bread store too! They were always yummy too, but don't indulge much anymore, but every once in a while, as well as moon pies, though those I didn't do much, when I was a kid. I didn't discover those until my FL days in the late 1980's! 1. Re: [PD-LIFE] Snowballs
    2. Yes, I see them all the time.? Usually the snowballs are in some kind of cute packaging to suit the season--in the summer you can get white ones that are wrapped in cellophane to make them look like baseballs, in the fall, they are orange and the packaging adds stems and leaves to make them look like pumpkins, in the spring they are pink with long ears and a cotton tail printed on the cellophane, etc. I rarely eat them but when I do I scrape off the marshmallow and coconut and just eat the cake!? The filling inside those things is so sweet it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. --Debra -----Original Message----- From: Sheila Kline <sheilakline47@yahoo.com> To: PaDutch-Life@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 12:00 am Subject: [PD-LIFE] Moon Pies & Other Sweets All the talk about moon pies, and those other delightful goodies, has reminded me of a sweet treat called "Snow balls"...the ones with the gooey marshmellow covering, was usually colored pink and then had cocoanut sprinkled on the gooey marshmellow covering. 3. Moon pies are being sold here in FL, in big boxes like 24 pies in the box, maybe 12. Not sure, & yes the have cookies with marshmallow in them. They are yummy, but don''t buy them, because of that. I'll have to check next time I'm at our neighborhood bread store. 3. Hi everyone! It's Becky. Once again, I am begging for help. I found a Catherine Derolf who was 20 in 1850. She lived in Oley Twp in the household of a Amos Spohn. This is according to HeritageQuest-series M432; roll 753; page 7-if I am reading it right. It fits my time period but the name is not quite right-of course, that can be accounted for and she doesn't show up on the LDS site. Any thoughts? 3. I like the PA-D of hurricane :o) It's so easier. But, I do like the words Wirbelwind and Wirbelsturm, too :o) Orkan sounds like the exterminators. Thanks for the language lesson, again, Richard!! :o) Lynn Richard Emlin Reed wrote: Of course, you could also say Orkan or Wirbelsturm. Wirbel means "to whirl". 3. Tracy said, "I hope it remains calm. Although we do need some more rain". Amen to the first. We've had quite a bit of rain in Wesley Chapel recently. It rained all day today. In PA-D, one would say, "Es hut dair gans dawk heit gerairt", which translates literally as "It has the whole day today rained ". This little digression is by way of illustrating the difficulty of translating, word for word, from one language to another. The German word for hurricane is Hurrikan, which appears to be a germanization of the English word. Of course, you could also say Orkan or Wirbelsturm. Wirbel means "to whirl". Wirbelfluss for whirlpool and Wirbelwind for whirlwind. In PA-D, we said hurricane. Richard Emlin Reed Wesley Chapel, FL

    3. We've had some tornado like weather, where my neighbor had a down or up wind that just destroyed their trailer, next door, along with a tree down against their trailer. They weren't even home. We ended up having to call their relatives. We had just gone down the road to get some groceries, & Wow, did we see damage!! We ended up helping take the tree trunk out, (Hubby did). Lately we've been getting the rain that we need every afternoon. Hopefully that will take care of the deficit that we're experiencing, wow BIG TIME in Central FL!! 3. GROSS!!!!!!! And, never hold a baby's face over your face, after the baby has just eaten. That happened to me, when Lindsey was a baby. And, of course, my mouth was open. I felt like that guy probably looked. The baby sitter gave me a look, then ran for a towel. :o) Lynn PS That line is there in my email reply, but disappears when it reaches the list. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tracy To: PADUTCH-LIFE Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2007 1:20 PM Subject: [PD-LIFE] cute joke...Ham Sandwich Hi List, I received this cute joke the other day and just can't quit giggling at it for some reason. I almost fell off my chair laughing. As ham sandwiches go, it was perfection: a thick slab of ham on a fresh Bun with crisp lettuce and plenty of expensive, light brown, gourmet Mustard. The corners of my jaw aching in anticipation, I carried it to the table in our backyard, picked it up with both hands but was stopped by my wife suddenly at my side. "Here, hold Johnny (our six-week-old son) while I get my sandwich", she said. I had him balanced between my left elbow and shoulder and was reaching again for the ham sandwich when I noticed a streak of mustard on my fingers. I love mustard. I had no napkin. I licked it off. It was not mustard. No man ever put a baby down faster.... It was the first and only time I have sprinted with my tongue protruding. With a washcloth in each hand, I did the sort of routine shoeshine boys do; only I did it on my tongue. Later, after she stopped crying from laughing so hard, my wife said, "Now you know why they call that fancy mustard 'Poupon'." We have a same-theme story in the family involving my great-niece and her father. I just can't remember if he smelled or tasted. We still tease him about it! tracy ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for a deal? Find great prices on flights and hotels with Yahoo!
