    3. I'll bet that WAS a sight!!! We only see them once in a while around these parts. I imagine they like the warmer, more consistant weather? Anyone know? Lynn Rick wrote: Hi everyone! This reminds me. For most of this summer we had a yellow Finch that would fly around our house for hours and peck at all the windows. It would flutter up to the big picture window in the Dining Room like it was trying to fly in. After it did that it would back off and sit on the thermometer for awhile trying to figure out why out why it couldn't fly straight through. This bird was really obsessed with this for a month. After we had a bad rainstorm a few weeks ago, we didn't see it anymore. It was pretty comical to watch the bird in action.

    3. It sounds beautiful where you are, Debra!!!!! Yes, I know what you mean. I miss our big crew of wildlife that was here this past winter :o( My squirrel who just sat there as I poured the sunflower seeds over him, isn't here anymore_probably got hit, or maybe when all the animals were being found dead around this area, and trees were being cut down left and right (we think someone was poisoning them though), it really depleated our view of the wildlife in our side sitting area. We have a Rhodadendron that really needs to be trimmed back HARD, but the birds have made it their home, and I don't want to take the dead branches off, for fear of them not having some place to perch over the cold of winter. Some are so real at times that I awake yelling (or trying to yell) or sobbing/crying. I had one not long ago where I awoke with my chest heaving, I couldn't catch my breath and I was crying. That one stayed with me for a while and kept me awake. The dreams that intrigue me are the ones where different rooms/areas of different homes/areas I have lived are all under one roof. When I wake I think, "Wow, that was my bedroom in Ohio and that window was Grandma's kitchen looking out onto the lake but we were on Grandma's farm looking down the lane!". 2. Wow, Jerilyn, that is quite a story.? I know when we lived in MA on Cape Cod, we had a great back yard that was bound by a fresh water pond with lots of trees and under brush there.? June -------------------- June; That was one of those times when lightning only struck once. Vee attempted a couple of times afterwards to do it again, and--I think--I tried once. Somehow, each time never did pan out. I should pull those links out of the archives and have Nancy put them up on the website. It always made for interesting reading especially Vee's daily updates on her disappearing Hershey's candy bar you folks presented to her. She always broke off a piece after supper and had it with her special coffee. :-) Rick B

Newmanstown, where I was born and raised, is only about six miles from Myerstown (Moyershtettel); and ten miles from Mt.Aetna (Wohlebershtettel). I, too, have ancestors buried on St. John's Cemetery. Our children called my mother "back to Mammy" amd my wife's grandmother, "down to Mammy". The latter was less than a quarter mile from our house. Whenever my wife made something for supper that my younger son didn't like; he would say, "I'm going down to Mammy". One night, he returned in a few minutes. When my wife asked him what was the matter; he replied, "She's having the same thing you're having". Speaking of mud; are you old enough to remember Governor Gifford Pinchot? He ran for governor on, among other things, a slogan about getting the farmer out of the mud. He built a lot of "Pinchot roads". And, yes, I remember the snow drift fences; laths of wood, held together by twisted strands of wire; and intended to keep the wind from blowing the snow on the roads. Weren't they always painted barn red? Memories, like dreams, are almost always black and white. 2. Richard Emlin Reed
    3. Charles says, ?Ain't ain't ain't a word, ain't it ain't?"; and Karen mentions "Ayenot". Well, ain't certainly was a word. As I remember, positive statements were accompanied by "ain't" and negative statements by "ain't not"; exempli gratiae: "We're having ice cream tonight, ain't, Mom", and "There's no school tomorrow, ai'not (ain't not)". And, of course, ain't was also used as a verb. I ain't, you ain't, he ain't; what a versatile word. It was its rejection by the self-appointed intelligentsia that created the ungrammatical "aren't I" which we recently have discussed. When I was a boy, ice cream was not a casual thing; but, rather, a special event. Pop would fetch [go after and bring back] a quart of ice cream and dole it out on saucers. I would put a teaspoonful in my mouth; but, instead of emptying the spoon, I would lick a little ice cream off the top and in that manner, make a spoonful last for several licks. Heck, I could make a dish of ice cream last a half hour; if I put my mind to it. Did I mention that a quart of ice cream cost fifty cents in those days, a considerable sum, by the way. "Ei yei yei", what memories that brings back. The expression had innumerable uses. Its English equivalent, I suppose, was "Oh my". 1. [PD-LIFE] Ukraine Trip...
    2. Barry & Jean Keiser
    3. KEISER UPDATE Summer 2007 We trust that you are enjoying your summer, and that neither heat, rain, poor health nor bridges are creating problems for you. It has been very hot here in recent days, but we cannot complain. We have had visits from our daughter Kari and her family from Japan, and now Cindy and her two boys are here from Oregon, so we praise the Lord for the families He has given us and the opportunity to spend time with them. It is almost time for our team to leave for Ukraine, so we ask that you would pray in a special way for us from August 7 to 20. On the 20th, most of the team will return, but Jean and I will go to the Czech Republic to visit friends for a week, returning on the 27th. There are 13 of us who will leave on Tuesday to minister with a small church in Big Valley, near Odessa, Ukraine. We will be helping them get their building, which is now in a very rough form, ready to use for worship, Sunday School and other activities. It will especially help them as they reach out to their community. They have asked for a team for several years, but none has come until now. So they are really excited and I imagine somewhat nervous, wondering if they will do the right things with and for a group of Americans they don't know. But, from our past experience, we know that it will work out just fine. They have never had a Vacation Bible School, so we will help them lead their first. We will also have some special meetings for women, and do some English teaching. The pastor wants us to help distribute food and other necessary items to poor families in the area. And they plan to have some gospel suppers, to give people an opportunity to reach out to their neighbors. In looking at a tentative schedule they planned for us, it looks like we might be participating in about seven church services as well. More when we get back... Most places we have access to the Internet, but this time we'll be out in a village near to, but not in Odessa, so there won't be much in the way of an internet connection there... I'll check in when we return... After the rest of the team returns to PA, my husband and I will visit in CZ, (Prague) for a week. We lived there for 7 1/2 years (and have been back there many times since we moved back to PA), and so have many CZ friends we'll visit. There are already a few get-togethers set up with some of my former English students there... More later...
