When we were in OH, we saw some AWSOME hummingbirds that I thought we bees, then my sister told me, No those are the hummingbirds. Then looked closer, & sure enough they were! I was amazed! They were two toned, brown/tan. I've never seen very many, so I don't know what they are, I guess! So was AMAZED! She was saying that those are wild petunia's, which I didn't know attracted butterflys! Learn something new everyday, don't ya! Shazam!! LOL!!!!!!! Well, when did you say you could come. Remember, I have storytime on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:30. I've cancelled so much now, I shouldn't cancel anymore. You name the date and time, and I'll check the calendar :o) Lynn Hi Jerilyn and Gang: I am looking...with baited breath! Perhaps if we can get a date and time settled for October, others from the list could show up,and we can have a "mini" reunion.Though ,I guess it is not right to call it a reunion since some of us have never ever met once! We could call it our October Fest since we all have sauerkraut juice for blood. :-)
Yes, Mr. Reed we have those Ibises too roaming around eating the ants out of the ant hills in our yards here in Central FL, too! We have some film now, with my daughter narrating some footage, & its funny! The problem here is the alligators won't probably come around here much, because our lakes are WAY DOWN without water, but again, that's what happens here in the summertime. We've been in a dry spell for awhile, & when we do get the rain, sometimes its far & in between like many folks, this time of year! It's so interesting to see the snowy egrets, & blue herons are so gigantic though they're so interesting! And then in the winter, we see many of the birds from up north! Canada geese, & robins, red birds, but almost never see our little sparrows! I was so thrilled when I was in OH, I saw them! Hi June and All, It sounds like I wish our sideyard was, with a pond and all, but we have these big pine trees that just wouldn't work out with a pond. I had to take apart the wall I built up around where we feed the birds, because they needed the weirdly shaped bricks to fix the house, afterall, so it was kinda out of sorts when John and Joyce were here. I just put it back as good as I could before they came, but it isn't the way I want it to be. That will be my next project, once this weather breaks a little. WOW!!!! Four bird baths!!! That must be neat to watch. We use to have two, but the same thing happens with them, the pine needles just get in there, and mess them up right away. We DO need more birdbaths, because when the Mourning Doves, and the White Pigeon come take a bath, boy does that water get dirty almost immediately. When we had our Butterfly Tree, there was this tiny thing that came to the flowers. So that is what it was, a Sphynx Moth! I'll have to look it up to see if that is what we had back then. I miss our Butterfly Tree, and am getting one from a neighbor, as soon as the season is over. She ordered some through one of the magazines, and they were to be all different colors. Turns out they were just two different colors, and she has an extra she doesn't know what she wants to do with, so she said I could have it. I've decided to keep our Lilac bush where it is. It will be well established once we get the HUGE pine tree cut down some year. We know it has to come down one of these days, but we are hesitant in cutting it down, because so many of our neighbors got rid of trees, and the birds went crazy for a while, poor things. I love the sound of your pond, June!!! One question, who is Jenny? :o) Lynn PS They have the snowguards up, and I believe they have the slate fixed on the top roof. Don't know if they fixed the gutter up there, or if they are waiting to do that. They didn't need a lift to get up there, either. They just climbed up the backhalf of the house, and over the top they went. Wouldn't have been me on that steeply pitched slate roof. June wrote: Now, it's time for me to chime about the animals in our backyard. We have many varieties of flowers planted in our gardens. We have been cutting many bouquets of gladiolus in the past few weeks. Our 5 butterfly bushes as well as other flowers have been attracting loads and loads of butterflies. Goldfinches are always busy at our sunflowers, eating the seeds. We've seen a sphynx moth (looks like a tiny hummingbird). Sitting by our pond, watching goldfish and Koi, we often see beautiful dragon flies. We are often amused at our frogs who sit out on rocks and seem to talk back to us. Four bird baths and numerous feeders attract different kinds of birds. We've been enjoying Jenny singing to us much of the summer. Waiting for the temperature to drop a little to go out to enjoy our back yard again.

When I had kids, we called them CC's? (Connie's concoctions).? In the olden days, the food in the ice box was put together and made into soups.? I know we've talked of that before.? Long story, which I believe I already told, and it's in the archives ;o) I had Lynn's Slop #1, Lynn's Slop # 2, and so on. Wish I still had those recipes. When I lived in the one apartment complex, the cock roaches just nested in my Betty Crocker Recipe box, where I kept all my own recipes. That thing went directly to the dumpster, when I found this out, and most of mine and Lindsey's things went to the other folks in the building when we moved out_appliances, books, goose down coats, you name it, we donated it to them, because I didn't want to carry any eggs with me to the new apartment. I loved the apartment, but hated those horrible bugs. They would travel up from the apartment below, where the Threshold people lived. They were such sweet people, but had! to be told to use water and soap when they took a shower, or did their wash, and cleaned. There was something missing in their person who was to be there to give them guidance, so I often would talk to them, explaining things, if we were in the laundry room, or sitting out on the stoop. Lindsey was just 1 1/2 years old, but made many a friend of these folks, and so did I.
