    1. Re: [PD-LIFE] recipes
    2. Barb, We have more in common than a love of cooking and our interest in Pa-Dutch culture.I,too, had a home daycare center in our home.I retired because of having a very severe case of Lyme Disease in 1990.[I was not a fortunate as George Bush.]Mine left me neurologically impaired. My mother before me had a daycare center all my life, and when Tom and I purchased my childhood home;a huge Victorian in Collingswood,N.J.,I took the childrren she had then. The center grew like the proverbial Topsy, and for over 20 years I had my business. When you described how your kids parents smelled your supper cooking, and wanted to stay,so did mine...often they did.We all became "like family". Thanks for sharing the recipes,I shall try them. Remember"Kissing don't last, but cooking does" ! Jerilyn

    2. Anna, I too wish to add my condolences.? It is tough for those left behind but take solace in her going home to be whole again.? Love and sincerely,? Connie -----Original Message----- From: Del Bristol <bristol@wcnet.org> To: padutch-life@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 10 Aug 2007 8:13 pm Subject: [PD-LIFE] Bats and more "Die Fledermaus" was one of my dad's favorite pieces of music! He liked classical music that had 'thunder and lightning' as he called it. Most of we children grew up to appreciate the classical as well. The Strauss family could do no wrong! Light opera and singers such as the late Mario Lanza were favorites of his, and ours. Our sister Sonya discovered it was bat droppings on her front porch. We elected to name him Godfrey (do you remember the movie, "My Man Godfrey"?). He selects various locations around her house from which to hang upside down. Fannie Farmer candies were made here in Norwalk, Ohio, for a number of years; the plant closed some years ago. My sister Melba once worked there and her job was to remove the lion's mane from the nuts! Honestly. She would bring home clusters of goofed suckers (why did they always seem to be lime flavored?). They would fill the liner cups with the various chocolates and she would describe how a certain curlicue on the chocolate candy would indicate its filling. My sister Evelyn died Monday; it was a combination of lung cancer, black mold disease, and emphysema. She had no chance, my friends. She requested no funeral, just a family and friends get-together, which we are having in two weeks. We four sisters who were with her to the end joined hands with her and one another in a prayer circle to wish her Godspeed. She died within an hour of being disconnected from life support. It has been just four days and I am teary-eyed. This PAD group has been most supportive in the travails we experience in life and share here. For that, I thank you. 2. Man I'm afraid of snakes so I'll never go where you live.. :) Interesting story .. Here in MO. we don't have a lot of alligators except on the menu in restaurants and It is very good.. One day my hubby came in from work and told me an eagle flew over his head as he was getting out of the truck..Of course I didn't believe him, so I called the animal shelter and they said yes it was possible because where we live (Kind of out in the country) there are eagles about 2 miles from our house.. I know we have Owls in our trees that keep us awake at night and once I found a RED Pennsylvania Bat with 2 babies attached to her in our back yard..They were beautiful YES they were RED Pennsylvania Bats way out here... The nice animal shelter lady took the bats to her house for safe keeping she lives out in the country near the eagles...We go to Clarksville, MO every year to watch the Eagles they are beautiful.. We had a med sized snapping Turtle in our front yard a couple weeks ago..I have a great recipe for Turtle soup my Dad made us growing up in PA.. Boy I can still taste it .. 1. Re: [PD-LIFE] recipes
    2. Jerilyn, Yes when we moved here to Missouri after just a year of marriage I needed something to do. I started out just babysitting for 1 child in their home then another in my home. Then I decided to teach weight watchers for a while got pregnant and decided to be a stay at home mom.. That's when I started my daycare 20 years ago..I told my neighbor I want a dozen children, well over the years I have had over 80 children that I have raised like my own.. Now I'm about ready to retire.. I have cared for my own children, their friends, and some of their friends children.. Full circle I guess.. Everyone calls me MOM :) Funny story is that when my daycare parents want to have another baby they come and ask me first if its okay.. I'm not taking any new kids now so I can retire when hubby does...I now have a new granddaughter who turns a month old on the 17th. Such a great thing to be a grandparent.. :) I do love to cook and most of my daycare parents have stayed and had supper with us at one time or another..I BBQ a lot and the whole neighborhood smells my food cooking..Around here you can BBQ most year round winters are not to bad...Not like in PA.. When we get a few inches of snow they close the schools. Hey I remember walking to school in PA when the snow was 2 foot or more...That's another story.. :) What other things do you like to do? I love to paint, in fact I have been hand painting gun stocks now for several years and I go to gun shows and shooting with my hubby once in a while.. I'm a pretty good shot as hubby says....I have done wall picture's also...
