Hi Gang, I hate to bother you all, but if you were a part of the very first two emailings of THE MANUAL, back a couples years ago, would you mind letting me know. Somehow I deleted that file, and I wanted to add you to the list for when there are updates. You can let me know off list at [email protected] I'm going to try to get my sister-in-law to join our group, when she gets the Internet. She might just be a lurker, but I know she will enjoy our chatter. She gets a kick out of her sister-in-law :o) Anyway, thanks for letting me know! :o) Lynn
Hi Sally!! I actually perked a few cups of coffee this evening!!! Since we just purchased our first coffee maker, we've been trying to find a good ground coffee. So, someone where Mike works brought in a packet of the coffee they get delivered to their house. I was anxious to try it out, to compare it to the Folgers we already had. We think we like the coffee my "Aunt" Becky serves us when we visit with her on the 4th of July. She uses 8 O'clock Coffee. So far, it's winning in the taste contest :o) So, I did have that cup of coffee with you, maybe a little bit later in the day, but one I wasn't planning on having today. That's wonderful !!! I love to hear with people print THE MANUAL out for gifts!!! I keep getting emails from family and friends saying how much they love THE MANUAL. Does Lindsey use it, she has told me that she does. She works so much that I'm not sure if she uses it or if her boyfriend does the most. Oh, Peggy, I'm getting the NuWave ready for sending to you tonight. I made the tuna burgers and they turned out good again. So I typed it up this time, just have to get it into THE MANUAL section and I'll make sure you get it. I still have more, and will be updating that section as I experiment along the way. Hope everyone has a GREAT night, and if you still want to get on board THE MANUAL sending, just let me know. Hugs from Columbia! :o) Lynn Sally wrote: Hi Cold Lynn My toes are so cold. I am just going to make a hot cup of tea or coffee too. If you do find out how to copy enire folders PLEASE let me know! LOL!!!!!! Yes, Trish, a bad time to let us know it's 70 where you are :o) NO, no, no, just kidding!!! Trish, and everyone else in the areas of the US or World, wherever you are, who are having the perfect weather, ENJOY!!!!!! We will soon be there again, and wishing for some of this come summer. You are right, for the llittle bit of cold we suffer here in SE PA, the residents of the nursing home, and I often wondered how they made it through the winters out on the prairie!!! BUT, some of the residents, who were a part of my group 17 years ago remembered those times, and one or two came from the midwest_guess that's the part of the US that those states the Ingalls settled. They lived in cabiins/houses with big spaces between the boards, or logs at times, and with no trees to block the winds, though they did use straw piled up around the house, and barn. Laura wrote that it got to 50 below at times!!!! It's at times like this that I really miss reading to my friends. But, I am in email contact now with one of them, and I'm sure, since another was moved to the same nursing home, she will set up email very soon, if she doesn't have it already. So, we aren't so bad off, are we? But, you are right Connie_that weather they are having where Mary is is not good to be out in. I remember one time we have a major cold blast go through Reading for a few days. I never wore a hat, and boy did I catch it from one of the bus drivers when I got on the bus the one morning! I was scolded all the time, but to this day, I don't wear a hat. I rarely wear a coat when I am outside shoveling. After about 5 or 10 minutes, I'm way too hot to wear one. If I keep my coat on, I feel like I'm weighed down to much, and have to take it off. As always, everyone scolds me, but I'm the only one who hasn't been sick in 44 years, so guess I'm okay, huh :o) Take care Mary, if you go out tomorrow! Take care all of you in the severe cold blasts. Hugs! Lynn PS Sally, I handled my breathing with a good cup of cafeine :o) That does the trick most times, over the years. Since it's Chemical Sensitive Severe Asthma, it only hits me when I am around the chemicals, and I am usually very careful_but my sister-in-law and I weren't thinking today. Guess that's all it takes, though, one time not thinking. Anyway, when the cold/sick season is over, I'll make an appointment. It's bad enough that I have to sit in the waiting room and become over-exposed because of other patients clothing and perfumes; I don't want to bring germs home to Mike, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and Lexus, too. I don't plan on being careless again. That was a first in over 2 years!!! LOL...well, you all hang in there & stay warm. If it makes you feel any better, it has been in the low 30F's in the morning, which, for around here, is a little chilly. So, not perfect, but we sure are enjoying the warmth. We'll pay for it in the summer when we haven't had any rain and have no water to use, let alone drink. But...gee whiz...y'all apparently have nothing else to do but be online! We went away for the last weekend + and my inbox exploded with PADutch emails! wow! It'll take a while before I get through them all while I catch up on work (oh, am I supposed to be doing that too?). Stay safe and stay warm. Supposedly it's very good, according to some folks around here. I know it's in one of my cook books, maybe even in the Columbia one_not in THE MANUAL. Have any of you tried this one. We don't eat a lot of cake_well, Mike's family doesn't, so I don't get to make a lot of cakes, unless they are ice cream cakes, and that Pumpkin Dump Cake, but would like to know if any of you had it, and liked it. I would like to shock the teens some Sunday with this cake_been wanting to do that since they started coming down here. But, I really need to know if I would be able to stomach the rest of it, if I should make it. Thanks, and thanks Brenda for posting the recipe, it reminded me of the trick I wanted to play on the kids. I had forgotten all about that this school year :o) They are coming again the first Sunday in February. I know using tomatoes worked for a Mock Cherry Pie I made one year, but I don't remember where I put the recipe for that. Anyone have that recipe? I've been wanting to put that into THE MANUAL. That's another strange thing to do with tomatoes. Same as making Mock Apple Pie_using zucchini_that's really good, too!!!! :o) Lynn Brenda Daniels posted the Tomato Soup Cake
Yes, near Lynn, and Lynn waiting on a visit from Connie and Bill some day, who live somewhat near Lynn :o) LOL!!!!!!!! Hey, stay warm!!! What's the temp like across the river? I think my garden thermometer froze. It is reading 60 degrees right now and we KNOW it isn't 60 outside. Wonder if my kitchen window one is off, too? I'm going to go out with Lexus, now, and freeze!!!!! The little birds are hiding, cuddled behind the small brick wall I have around where I feed them. Guess it blocks the cold wind. None of them are taking a bath today!!!! But, they certainly are thirsty! I would be too if I were out in the dry air all winter. :o) Lynn Connie wrote :o) Connie, near Lynn in icy PA.

So, I suppose this would be a bad time to mention it is 70F this afternoon in sunny northern California? :-) I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts with no shoes and sipping cool lemonade. Sorry...it's one of the few times when the "sunshine tax" we pay out here for everything makes it worth it. Times like these I wonder how our ancestors stayed warm enough through these types of winters. I do hope y'all stay warm and safe---no more skating, falling, thudding or crunching! Thanks, Mary, Yes, I already told Mike's brother and sister to read all of the fine print. I remember when Lindsey got her first cell phone. She didn't read the contract correctly, and had a bill of over $400.00 the first bill :o( She was SHOCKED! She now is very knowledgeable on this sort of thing, but not the emergency, simple, type phones. Is anyone in MN, or where they are getting readings of actual temps below zero? Let us know, and please take care. Right now, I won't take Lexus out for more than a potty trip. I can't wear gloves for very long, so when I first go out to sweep or shovel snow, I go without gloves. Early this morning, it only took 5 minutes for my hands to get really stiff and very cold. I put on a pair of gloves to finish the job, and now have alligator hands again. And, it isn't near as cold here as some of you have it. Here it is reading 20 degrees, at 1:33PM, on our thermometer at the kitchen window, which is in the shade, but not in a windy place. This morning it read 9, so it is warming up a little. But, tomorrow we are to be in single digits most of the day. Take care out there. Hugs :o) Lynn ~~~ Mary wrote: I have a Verizon Cell phone, but for what you are asking, I would recommend a TRACphone I have friends who use them and they like them just fine. Hi Cathy, Yep, I believe it were me :o) LOL!!!! I haven't written down the recipe, yet. It's in my head, and I have to check to make sure I have it right. My friend told me what she does, when they were here New Year's Eve/Afternoon. I am notorious for not writing down the recipes, and fly by the seat of my pants when cooking. Hah, you would think I would use THE MANUAL, but I only have a few recipes copied from it, really small, on a few pieces of copy paper, taped to the inside of my kitchen cabinets, just to get ideas of certain ingredients, or measures. I always said I wouldn't be like my mom in the kitchen, but I am!!! I HAVE to write these down, and as soon as I write down the one from my friend, I will let you know. I had asked her if it was the one on the box, but she said it wasn't. I know I did type up what I remembered her saying, and checked it out once with her husband, but will have to look for that email :o) LOL!!!!! in my 35,000 I have to file, and then find the email that he sent back with her addition of a small ingredient I forgot_it was the quarter tsp salt :o) There, that's one of the ingredients :o) Oh my!!! That chemical got to me more than I thought! Better get lunch, and make that doctor appointment. I also am making tuna burgers this evening, to get that recipe on paper, instead of in my head. Better git now. Have some prayer loops to get out, also. I'll be back!!! Got your other message on the MOOREs in Ohio. I'll have to put that on hold for now, though, because of all the projects I am doing. Since that is a married in line, I actually don't research it, but will pass it on to my mom's cousins, who are of that line. Then, when I get back to my husband's VONDRAN line, will see if it applies to him. But, for now, I have to stick with my KREMER and BANKES lines_then get back to requests and share picture for the VONDRAN line, before I get into the, what do they call them? Lateral lines? Can never remember the term used. Gotta really git now. The kitties are crying and crying for their food. Good puppygirl Lexus, is just sleeping, or pretending she is sleeping. Once I go to the kitchen, she will lift her head and watch me intently. :o) Lynn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cathy And donald w raber" <[email protected]> To: "better than good" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2009 10:55 PM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] 2009!!!!! > > Hey what's Pineapple Tapioca? Hi Marilyn, Pam in IN just asked me about it, and I sent her the Title Page and Table of Contents to make her decision. I will do the same for you, and when you decide, I'll put you on the list with Pam, and send at the same time. I have been behaving myself so much that all I've had happen LATELY is the swelling when I'm around the chemicals, all this time_so I didn't need the inhaler. BUT!!! I better not take the chance on it not working, again, when I need it. It was Sears Humidifier Bacterial Stat that set me off badly this time. Well, at least that's one more thing to add to my definite list of products I have to stay away from. And the list goes on, and on, and on. Better get a cup of black coffee. Oh Mary!! I read your message about the folders you have set up in your email for sorting. Yep, that's WHY my heart races :o) LOL!!!!! That's where I am backed up those 35,000 files to go through and either answer or file them elsewhere in my research folders :o( The good side of that is that it is no longer the 65,000 I WAS backed up before getting my laptop. With the laptop, and being able to have it in the TV room with Mike and Lexus, I have already gotten rid of 30,000 emails !!!! Well, not gotten rid of them, but gotten them where they belong on my computer, out of my email. Speaking of which, if any of you know an easy way to do that_like transferring complete folders from Outlook Express into the normal place where you set up files and folders, please email me off list with the directions on how to do that. I would so appreciate it. It would really be nice to know they are in a place that gets backed up on a regular basis. With all the work I do on my computer, I need to back up weekly_but should daily. Well, gotta get moving and make a doctor's appointment to get an updated prescription :o( Hugs from getting colder, and colder, and colder Columbia! :o) Lynn PS Yes, those were the days!!!!! Our Groundhog Club, and parades, and our virtual parties!!!! I can't remember a New Year's Eve that I laughed so hard !!!! I really need to get that story and put it together someday. I did that once, sent it to a friend of mine, and lost where I saved it, IF I saved it. So, when I have time...LOL!!...I'll go get it :o) PPS Awwww, see Marilyn!!! Your computer was homesick for you!!! Marilyn in Waterville, Ohio wrote: > I had surgery in October and while I was away my computer got sick too. > Just got back on line a couple weeks ago. Oh I wish all of you would stop talking about pork and sauerkraut. My grandmother and mother used to make it when I was little. My family does not like it so I can't make a big pot like they did. They also put in potatoes and I loved it on the second day when mom would sometimes fry it up using a little butter oh is my mouth watering. Did you ever think about how our parents rarely had a weight problem because they were always out doing something and keeping busy. No we plop in front of TV's or computers :) and don't get as much exercise but boy we could eat good and anything we wanted. Maybe a little too many carbs but boy I remember when food was such a comfort or a time to spend with family and friends and enjoy the fun. Ah memories Have a nice nostalgic day. Hmmmmmm, you have the MOORE last name! I am related to MOOREs through marriages into that family. My husband's GG, or GGGgrandmother was Sarah Jane MOORE, married to Jeremiah HAWS from the Pottstown area. They moved to the Ohio area, and spread out from there. I wonder if your MOOREs aren't related in some way with Sarah Jane's! This is one of my mega projects I'm working on, getting this line on DVDs for my sister-in-law. If you are related, I might be able to email you some pictures of ancestors in the HAWS/HAAS line. My KREMER line has MOORES in it from the Schuylkill Haven area. In fact, I just got a huge pointsetia plant from one of my second cousins, whose maiden name is MOORE. And, her sister was Miss Congeniality in the Miss America Contest in the early 60s_can't remember what year. I'll have to ask her that someday. She, my mom, and I were the ones in the family who had very slanted eyes when we were younger, and were taunted because of it, growing up near the time of WWII. Oh, you'll find all kinds of good recipes in THE MANUAL, but I will warn you all, this is over 600 pages. I have it all broken down into section folders, so don't worry, you won't receive it all at one time. I'll spread the sending out over a few days. Those who have received it before, know it will take that long. Also, if you know of the origin of any of the recipes in it, that I don't seem to have the exact origin indicated, please let me know. I love finding out exactly how far back we can date some of the recipes. Like my husband who thinks HE invented the Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich :O) LOL!!!! I am 6 1/2 years older than he is, and I always tease him that the sandwich was around WAY before he was born!! Well, hope someday we find out that your MOOREs connect. Right now, I can't venture into that area, but after I have my mega photo project finished, we'll have to try to figure it out. We don't think my husband's MOOREs connect to my MOOREs, but you never know. My second cousin Tommy MOORE's obituary was in an Ohio newspaper, so, maybe :o) :o) Lynn PS I put you on the list for THE MANUAL :o) Sarah H. MOORE wrote: Lynn, I, too, would very much like to have a copy of "THE MANUAL". My father's people moved to Illinois from the Pottsville, Pennsylvania area before 1886. My mother did not learn any of her in-laws' recipes. After my Aunt died, I found elastic bands with spikes on them for walking on ice.?They slipped onto whatever foot wear you had on.? I know they came from the 50's, at least.? Need to get them out and use them.? Hope I can remember where I stashed them.?Connie, near Lynn in icy PA. Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Weather-slipping on ice The local sporting goods stores and outdoors stores - Eastern Mountain Sports and Dick's Sporting Goods sell a contraption called YaxTrax. They are great for walking on ice and packed snow. They are made of criss crossed rubber strips with wire coils over them. They fit on the bottom of shoes or boots. Sue, What a creative imagination! To come up with those options for dumplings. I would have never thought to do but they do sound "right". I do have a relative who uses lasagna noodles in her PADutch "chicken and dumplings". -tracy --- On Wed, 1/14/09, Sue wrote: most of the time, i cheat and use pre-made dumplins, but i must confess that sometimes~since i usually have them on hand~i either use canned biscuits (i cut them in fourths or eighths) or flour~never corn~tortillas (i cut some in fairly small squares, but most in strips~then cut the strips in half)... :-) i only use enough water to cover the chicken~i can always add a little water here and there, if needed...
