NOTE NO Degree for baking or time <http://www.recoveredrecipes.com> *Mock Cherry Pie* 1 1/2 cups cranberries cut in half 1 cup seeded raisins <http://recoveredrecipes.com/index.php/historical-cooking-definitions/> 1 scant <http://recoveredrecipes.com/index.php/historical-cooking-definitions/> cup sugar 1 cup water 1 tablespoon flour 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 pieces of pie pastry Combine the cranberries, raisins, sugar, water, and flour in a saucepan and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Place 1 piece of pie pastry in a pie pan. Add pie filling then top with second crust. Crimp the edges of the pie and trim any excess pastry dough. Cut two 2? vents in the top of the pie crust. Bake at 375 for 30-45 minutes or until the pie filling begins to bubble through the vents. Allow to cool to room temperature before cutting. 3. Well, then Mike has a long wait :o) I thought that is what he said, and I could be wrong. I want my XP back, but in my laptop. Can't do the change things, as too many expenses with my new toys, but maybe someday_that day will come and XP won't be around anymore. I'll have to tell Mike about the new version, not being anything but an upgrade of Vista. That will make him VERY happy :o( LOL! Thanks Joan, for your reply!!! 3. Hi Linda,    Try an APC or Belkan brand surge protector for home electronics. Mine were about $30 at Office Max or Office Depot, but can get anywhere. Mine are 1770 Joules for the computer, phone, printer/fax and a couple extra spaces. They have warranties for up to $10,000 that come with the surge protector. We have whole house surge protection, individual major appliances and DVDs,VCRs and satelite boxes hooked up to APC or Belkan. Better safe than sorry.   -tracy --- On Thu, 1/15/09, linda wrote: Yes, I did have a surge protector, but I did hear on tv some time ago that they don`t always work. 2. Connie- XP will also be "gone" in the sense that new technology comes along all the time and is under development. VISTA isn't being "dropped" and won't be "gone" -- it will just eventually become outdated technology--remember Windows 3.1? How far we've come from DOS and Windows 3.1! And we'll keep having newer and better technology in the future. Joan In a message dated 1/16/2009 12:14:26 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Sorry, Linda, again, but I just read a blurb that Vista is going to be dropped and replaced with an update of something else.? Not sure what but it is gone.? I hated it but did not know at the time we could request XP.? Figured we then would no longer get service.? Oh, well.? Ever the planned obsolescence so we consume more products.? Hate being manipulated like that.? Connie

    2. Windows 7 is merely in beta and won't be out for the general public THIS year. It is based upon VISTA and doesn't indicate MS is dumping VISTA--just that they are always working on new versions for the future with new features. Joan In a message dated 1/16/2009 11:51:41 A.M. 2. Lynn Vondran
    3. Yes, there is one coming out this year. I believe I just read from someone on the list that it is Windows 7? Maybe that is why Mike is holding off getting a laptop of his own. Being a computer analyst/programmer, he doesn't like the mess that some of the things we ran into, that should be very easy to do, were not smoothly done. After a hard day's work, he doesn't need the headache that Bill Gates offers with Vista. Some say it shouldn't have ever been released to the public_we agree!!! When he wants to calm down from work, I let him play my Mahjong games. He has to have it far away from him to see it. Yes, I wish the screen were farther away, too, but I really like the fact that I can take the laptop and work on it wherever I want to, as long as I have a socket to plug in my surge protector. Anyone with a laptop know of ways to make your battery last longer? I heard you are suppose to let the battery run all the way down once a month, to prolong its life, but I haven't read that yet in any of my books, yet. Anyone ever hear of that? What's the whole scoop on doing that? Thanks! Have to eat, and get ready for shopping. Stay warm, take care this weekend, and don't forget to let me know if you want to be on the Monday emailing of THE MANUAL. Also, in case you can't open THE MANUAL, one of our list members, Brenda, sent through something that might help you. If you can't open it, just let me know and I'll pass the message on to you again, and hope it helps. Have a GREAT weekend!!! Talk on Monday, or if I am sending THE MANUAL before then, you'll be hearing from me, but remember, don't let that keep you from requesting it, if you miss this time around. Hugs and Smiles! 3. It'll soon be 70* and above here in FL. I think I like the cool 43* today. Tonight is to be 22*. The wind is blowing a bit hard so it is bitingly chilly here. I still have my shorts on but I did wear a coat last night and will wear one today!!! Still no snow.   I've got shorts, sweatshirt, socks and slippers on. And my feet are still cold. I may have  to go bump the heat up to 64*.   I've often wondered about our ancestors but figure they got up early, worked hard, went to bed and stayed there until morning.   -tracy --- On Thu, 1/15/09, Trish wrote: So, I suppose this would be a bad time to mention it is 70F this afternoon in sunny northern California? :-) I'm wearing a t-shirt and shorts with no shoes and sipping cool lemonade. Times like these I wonder how our ancestors stayed warm enough through these types of winters.

    3. Sally, You would have had a blast. But, it was a mighty drop to the water level. Don't remember if we could reach it with our feet. I get seasick, so just sat "on the dock of the bay, watchin' the" party boat floatin' away, with one of the other ladies :o) LOL! I'll put the whole story together someday. My FlavorWave won't get here until tomorrow, now. But, that's okay, since we need to go somewhere this afternoon. Take care all of you out there. We should adopt the y'all here in PA, makes for faster typing :o) Hope you, in the warmer areas of the US, are enjoying that gorgeous weather you are having!! I'm ready for spring, and gardening. Hugs :o) Lynn Sally wrote: > Oh Lynn! I have heard of the virtual visits and the cookies but I didn't > hear about the New Years Eve party!! 2. Sorry, Linda, again, but I just read a blurb that Vista is going to be dropped and replaced with an update of something else.? Not sure what but it is gone.? I hated it but did not know at the time we could request XP.? Figured we then would no longer get service.? Oh, well.? Ever the planned obsolescence so we consume more products.? Hate being manipulated like that.? Yes, I did have a surge protector, but I did hear on tv some time ago that they don`t always work. Then, when I bought my new computer, the guy told me that there are different "powers" (or what ever you call it) of them. He suggested that I pick out a middle range one. Who knows just what I had that didn`t work. Hopefully, both of my printers are okay. I haven`t been able to try them out yet....however, they both turn on which is more than what my computer did. I was able to put in some programs that I loved in my windows xp, but they work different in Vista. I will get used to using it, before long I will forget how much I liked my XP.....(maybe if I tell myself and everyone else that....I will actually believe it too!!!!) Seriously though, it isn`t nearly as bad as I though it would be. I bought myself one of those Kuerig coffee makers. They are wonderful !!! I have to have only decaf. 3. Hi Connie, I know, I know. I am very careful, and have to take a chance now and then, or I'll turn into a hermit, here :o) I am not out there, yet, today. Though we have to look for another grocery store, so when we go get Lexus' dog food, in E-town, we will stop by Darrenkamp's (sp?) to see how that store smells, and what their prices are like, too. YOU be careful falling around the house! That didn't sound right, be careful not to fall again! There that sounds better :o) Hugs, you're colder over there than we are on this side of the river.
