    3. We have about 7 inches on the ground and it just started with the freezing rain here in Vestal, NY. Wow! Don... 27°? You're going to have to buy some long johns. If it was that cold in town, I wonder what it got down to out in the desert? This winter surely is strange; but I'm done with it and spring can roll in any old time!!! 1. [PD-LIFE] Knitting, Crocheting, Dark Chocolate, and Popcorn
    2. Mary Sayman
    3. Janice, I have always preferred crocheting over knitting. Knitting takes too long. Like you, I have made many, many things, including bedspreads and afghans and clothes. And when you say you love dark chocolate and popcorn.... Wow! move over, 'cause you are going to have to share!!! I will some times take cheddar cheese chunked up with just a tiny dab of Fresh Buttery Taste bread spread on top and nuke it until it melts, then drizzle it over my popcorn. YUM! Mary -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Janice Danielson Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2009 1:43 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PD-LIFE] All You Knitters and Crocheters All this talk about knitting and crocheting---goodness, does it ever hit home with me!! I made a queen sized crocheted bedspread (out of doily type thread) back in 1983 when I had gastric bypass surgery. It is white, with alternating baskets of flowers---and is done all in ONE piece!! The pattern called for it to be done in strips and then sewn together---but I decided I wanted it all in one piece. So I sat down and figured it out and just did it on my own. Then I went for a lot of years without doing any more crocheting. This past year I have gone on a "bender" and have been crocheting like mad!! I made a queen sized bedspread (again with doily thread) for my daughter---got it done in about 3 months of steady crocheting every night!! And I cannot even tell you how many other pieces I have made this last year!! I LOVE to do filet crochet, and that's all I do. If I tried to make a round doily it would turn into a ball I am afraid---I crochet pretty tight, so round things tend to curl up for me. Guess that's why I don't do them any more! I promised my dau-in-law that I would make her a KING sized bedspread out of doily thread, IF she would get me the measurements for their bed. So far she hasn't done it---kind of slow I guess. Anyway, she is going to have to pay for the thread--it is going to take a LOT of thread for that big of a spread. I am getting cheap in my old age I guess---sigghhhh!! Just thought I would add my 2 cents here about the crocheting thing. I truly enjoy the homey conversations we all have in this group---feels good to know we can talk about things that we like to do and things we like to EAT!! My favorite thing!! My favorite foods are dark chocolate and popcorn!! Ha! Better quit before this becomes a book!! Take care all of you out there---and keep crocheting!! 1. [PD-LIFE] Great News for Sally and Mary
    2. Mary Sayman
    3. Hi, list. Sally and I have been talking off line. We just discovered that we are, indeed, cousins. Our lineage goes back to two brothers, Johannes and Ludwig, who were sons of Johann Ludwig SEAMAN/SAEMANN. Isn't that exciting? Now Lynn and Rick won't be the only cousins on the list. LOL. 1. Re: [PD-LIFE] My CSSA :o)
    2. Lynn Vondran
    3. Hi Trish, and Joan, Yes, what Joan said is ABSOLUTELY correct. I just had a chance to read some of my email, after coming in from shoveling all that we have to shovel_only took 3 1/2 hours to hand shovel everything, since my sister-in-law and I did it together. We have a whole lot, and more to come with the rubber roof lets its load loose. Yes, my immune system is fantastic, and probably because of this asthma. I haven't been sick for 44 years, which is GREAT. Lexus and Mike always have colds, or are always fighting colds_my residents at the home were very sick at times, yet I never caught anything. Probably carried a lot of germs home to Mike and Lexus, but I was never sick with a cold, or anything. Just, when I am around some things, my breathing passage can slam shut, and that's it, until I get my emergency inhaler out. Or I could lose my voice just like that, from something in the air, and after that the breathing passage starts to close. Or I could look thin one minute, and look really overweight the next_I've actually grown right before Mike's eyes, when we tried sitting outside the one summer. We are hoping that I am even better this year, so we can sit at the side of our house again, someday. I look normal, and very healthy, but this can happen at any moment, with whatever passes by me in the air. It could cause me to aspirate suddenly, also, which is never good. I did have a friend, who had NORMAL asthma, which she had since childhood. She hadn't grown out of it, as some say can happen. She was in her late twenties, married with two children. She heard of what you said, back then, in the 80s, and tried it. When she went to the Chiropracter (sp?), it made her problem a little better, with her everyday breathing problems a little less, but it didn't take it away. She still had allergy problems, and the breathing problems. And a big bill to pay on top of all her other doctor bills. The ONLY thing the doctor told me I can do for this is exactly what Joan said, to stay away from what triggers it. I am not allergic to anything, unless I am pre-exposed to perfumed products, or people who use them in their homes, or on their bodies. So, I don't have to take any kind of meds at all. I'm not a med taker. I was on meds for allergies for 3 1/2 years, holding onto furniture to make sure my feet were still on the ground. These were inhalers, pills, etc. I took myself off the meds, and when I told the doctor how I felt half the time, he quickly said, "Get off the meds!!!" Told him I already had, and he said good. Okay, next question to doc was "What do I do now? How do I exist?" I am a real people person_was doing volunteer work equalling two full time jobs. He started taking down everything I was allergic to, and in the middle of it, said he was sending me to an allergist. He began writing the referral up, and when I got to perfumes, laundry products, etc. in my list, he stopped writing the referral, and tore it up. Said he was not going to waste my money. That's when he told me there is nothing they can do about it, that they weren't even researching it at that time, and all he could tell me to do was stay away from what triggers it all, which was probably the perfumed things. I told him that would be very hard, because everything has perfume in it these days, and being the Band Front Director for the high school marching band, and teaching preschool, along with all the volunteer work I was doing_how can I give all of that up! He said, "Well, it's up to you. If you want to live, you have to give up the things that put you into the position of having your breathing passage swell shut like that. It's dangerous to your health." He went on to say that there is no medicine that can help, except the emergency inhaler to get me out of an attack. So, that's what I had to do, and it's not easy, believe me, with everyone wanting to smell the way they do, and have the strongest products out there, to make everything stink these days :o) He explained it's not like normal asthma, that it's from the chemicals in the products, and in the air from these products, soaking in, when I breathe, or in through my skin. So, that's when I had to slowly give up all the things I was doing. It's like environmental asthma to the max. A lot of people have environmental asthma, sports asthma, and other kinds, yet can go anywhere they want, and do most anything they want, because their breathing passages don't swell (SLAM suddenly) shut when their exposed to these products that are normal, everyday products around your house. My body absorbs everything in the air, and doesn't let it go. I don't know of any chiropractor or accupunturist who can keep a body from absorbing chemical particals in the air. My doctor said it was from having many Anaphylactic mini-shocks for many years, when we thought they were just bad allergies_so I was constantly being exposed to the triggers. Now it is this, and the only way it gets better is to just stay away from the stuff as much as possible. Believe me, I am a LOT better now, than I was a few years ago, before I stopped being around the stuff. Back then, I was actually counting my days, wondering if I was going to wake up in the morning_or if Mike would find me dead, when he came downstairs. I would dream I was dying, and couldn't catch my breath, and it would, THANKFULLY, wake me up_sure enough, I wasn't breathing. I don't have that anymore, unless I am over-exposed. I don't have the severe, daily migraines, and my head isn't swollen to the point that when I press on it, the finger dents stay in for days. So, what I am doing, is working, and what the doctor told me, is working. To the NORMAL person, it doesn't seem it, but I wouldn't be able to have any visitors at all, if I were like I was a few years ago. I just have to be very careful. I have a friend, from back home, who suggested the exact same things as you did, Trish. It was hard explaining it all to her, also. No one in my family, in past generations, had anything like this that we know of. But, my first cousin sounds like she has what I have, or is getting there. We spoke for three hours, last year, after not having contact with one another for about 20 years. Not that we were fighting or anything like that, we just live far away from each other, and always did. Anyway, in talking with her, it sounds like she has what I have. But, then again, she has been around perfumed products most of her working life, and it could have been just a coincidence that she was over-exposed at one point in time, also. I asked her dad, my Uncle Milt, who is my mom's brother, if he ever knew of any kind of breathing problem in the family, and he said no. I was wondering if maybe it is a result of the mustard gases that our grandfather was exposed to during WWI_he, eventually, died of the complications of being gased. Maybe the effects skipped a generation and hit mine and my cousin's. I don't know. Welp, better get busy with indoor stuff, now. Hugs from icy Columbia!!! boy, was that heavy stuff to shovel this morning! :o) Lynn Joan wrote: > Trish- > > I'm not Lynn and I don't believe that acupuncture and chiropractic are > hocus-pocus but there are limits to what each can do. 3. The Gecko is a funny little creature. When we were in Okinawa we kept at least one in the house all the time as they eat bugs. We didn't have any problems with mosquito's or flies in the house. My wife had a pet Gecko in the kitchen that liked peanut butter. Every night she would leave a little peanut butter on a paper plate and it would be gone in the morning. 3. Now I just received an email from the funeral home. They did NOT do the cremation yet and have only received money from Bryan and I. They will only proceed with the cremation after more money is received. The sister said she had some money to add but hasn't yet. Now I don't know what to tell Bryan. He will be so very upset to learn about the cremation not taking place. It's beyond my understanding how the family can lie about everything. I guess I just wait until he asks and then tell him the truth.   tracy   --- On Tue, 1/27/09, Connie wrote: I knew it would settle down at some point.  Unfortunately, it did not happen in my husbands family.  I think all families have some issues eventually.

    3. Becky, Perhaps this will sound a little callous, but I have always felt that just because you are related to some one doesn't mean you have to like that person. I know it hurts you that your brothers are so greedy and inconsiderate; but you really don't need that type of attitude/chaos present in your life. If they never see the big picture because of their greediness, and they never apologize for treating you so poorly, then it is their loss. You can still continue loving them (because they are - after all - your brothers), just from a distance. Love is funny that way. You can love them whether they are standing next to you, or 1000 miles away. It is the same love, given in the same manner. I'm glad you stood your ground. 1. Re: [PD-LIFE] My CSSA and THE Bags :o)
    2. Mary Sayman
    3. Lynn, I have sensitivities and asthma, too, though not as severe as yours. I underwent patch testing this summer. I hope I never have to go through it again. I was found to be highly sensitive to nickel (which I knew), 'fragrance mix', and cobalt. I have had to search for new laundry detergent, soaps, shampoos, hair dye, fabric softeners, etc.; go through anything I would use or be exposed to as far as getting on my skin or into my system and get rid of it; stop using candles with any fragrance; and be ware of anything else that might spark a reaction. I spent a lot of time in my bathroom with a huge magnifying glass reading all the ingredients on every label. I still haven't gone through it all, but I have sorted out a lot of the things I can't use and replaced what I normally use with safe things. I'll get to the rest later. Until then, I don't even touch the bottles or containers. Still, I am not as bad as you. For those who may want to take a peek at one of the test results for Fragrance Mix, here is the link: http://www.truetest.com/PatientPDF/Patient_Fragrance.pdf. If you want to look over the whole site, here is the link for that, too: http://www.truetest.com/commonallergens.aspx It may help you to understand the severity of Lynn's CSSA. I, personally, cannot have anything with cinnamon or cloves in it because I so allergic that my mouth turns into one huge mass of blisters that last for a week. I am supposed to be wary of anything with vanilla or citrus in it, too, as well as wearing gloves if I have to peel citrus. That goes for anything that will touch or absorb into my skin. Allergies build up over time. It is RARE that one has an immediate, extreme reaction to something the first time one is exposed. PLEASE do not let any one tell you any differently. I developed the nickel allergy, which nearly killed me, when I was around 26. It was fortunate that I decided to go to the doctor's office when I did. Another day or so, and I would have died. The rest of it all developed over the past 35 years, because it took time to build up in my system. The fact is that your system can naturally handle a certain amount of allergens, even small overdoses if they are sporadic. But once your body hits that point where you are over the edge, that's when it all hits the fan! After my testing in June, I went to my hairdresser's salon to talk with her about the products we had been using on me. She was not there, and the lady at the front desk, Pat, who is a complete love, unwittingly went and had another hair dresser come out. This hairdresser is an idiot! and she explained to me quite loudly so every one in the shop could hear that ".... NOTHING they use in their salon could have possibly caused any problem because I would have had an IMMEDIATE reaction." I truly believe she thought I was there to go after the salon for causing my problem rather than listening to the fact that I was there for help, which I plainly stated. I became extremely upset, but she never had an inkling that I was quite livid. I thanked her for her time, calmly turned to Pat, and said, "Please have J.K. call me when she returns." Besides giving horrible haircuts (personal experience), that woman will cause a problem one day by giving some one bad information. In just one product I had purchased from the salon and had used heavily for the previous nine months had four allergens in it. Thankfully, my asthma seems to have lessened drastically. It may have been caused by all the allergens I was exposing myself to on a daily basis. At least for now, I am off my inhalers and have few symptoms. My breathing is much improved. Hugs to all, Mary
