    3. Thank you to all for the very kind words about mom. No matter how old you are(62), no matter how "prepared" you think you are, no matter if it is time....it is never easy. My friends at work, and my kids, ask "how are you doing?" I'm ok, is the standard answer. Friends ask.."how did the sale go"? How were you with that? Sale..ok..but what bothered me the most was when different people bought mom's clothes.. I would look and remember..mom really liked that Christmas sweatshirt..mom wore that to church..mom wore that at home...mom loved that coat! One elderly lady, who you could tell, didn't have much..my sister Janie, "gave" her some really good deals. You should have seen the smile on her face! and it helped us knowing that those things were still going to be enjoyed. Mom took excellent care of her clothes. :) A WWll vet came to the sale with his family.... they wanted to buy mom's wheelchair...we gave them that and thanked him for his service to our country..Husband Don, shook his hand and thanked him again..the gentleman said...no one has ever really thanked me before. Don said..I'm thanking you now. I'm sorry no one has ever thanked you before. Our family has started doing that for any veteran we might run into or meet. We make it a point to thank them for their service. So, to any and all Vets on our list,....The Lewis family in Piqua, Huber Heights, and Englewood Ohio/and out at LeMoore CA....we thank you from our hearts, for your service to our country. One thing I like to think about is...mom is talking to Vee. :) They are finally able to meet each other. I would love to hear them talking about all their stories they have. Two Army gals having a drink and a long talk.. :) I have a pillow, given to me when we lost our granddaughter....it says.." MEMORIES ARE PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN WITH THE HEART".... Thank you GOD, for all my memories..... Thank you all. Sincerely, Kathy Lewis Piqua, Ohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "marysaerie" <marysaerie@stny.rr.com> To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 21, 2009 11:01 AM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Kathy's Mom Dear Kathy, I am saddened by your loss, but very happy for the peaceful passing. I spent three days at my Mom's bedside when she passed, so I know that same Blessing. I wish I could have seen and heard what she was seeing and hearing. From her reaction, they must have been beautiful sights and wondrous sounds beyond all our comprehension. One day, I know I will see and hear, too; as we all will. Until you join her, your Mother will remain with you in your heart. Now it is time for you to rest. I hope all that has been going on with the rest of you has been a little better, maybe a little easier to deal with. I've had you all on my prayer list. Just because I've been quiet(not according to hubby Don) :) doesn't mean I haven't thought of all of you. I just haven't had too much time. Mom has been very ill in the last few years, but esp. in the last several months. My sister Janie is still here from Ala. and took very good care of mom, for the last 3 1/2 yrs.....as did my sister Mary Gwen, and brother John. Mom passed away on Oct. 5, 2009. She had a very peaceful passing. GOD blessed her and us with that great gift. Janie will be posting all of mom's info on the Platt.rootswebsite because that was mom's maiden name. Mom(Grace Evelyn Platt Tripp) was born in Patton Pa., on Feb. 13, 1917. If you want to read her obit in full, you can google Piqua Daily Call, Piqua Ohio OR Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua Ohio. I guess that is if for now. I'm still working, but I've had my hours cut, at my request, at the library. I'm still not up to par myself yet. :) Oh..before I forget...Rick..I've got some extra stale cookies if you want me to save them for our Christmas party. :) Hope to get back soon. with love, Kathy Piqua, Ohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "Russ & Sally" <scott1@embarqmail.com> To: "Richard Berkheiser" <reberkheiser@earthlink.net>; <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 5:15 PM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Hello and the Weather HI Pa List: I keep hoping everyone will come back. 3. Well, I will share one thing, I never had collard greens until I moved to FL, & didn't think I liked them, they come to our Wal-mart in fresh bags. 2 pounds of it, & a recipe on it, just add some olive oil, water, & chicken broth, salt & pepper & we added diced ham too! And it had suggestions in additions of sauted onion, red pepper & garlic, which we added just red onion & garlic. It was quite yummy, & really getting to enjoy it. My husband has gotten it before & we enjoyed it then, & did get my youngest to put a couple bites in his mouth to try it! So perhaps I'm making some progress?! Hmmm. Great.. And then we had corn bread with Anna from Oh's suggestions awhile back to additions of cheddar cheese. Boy that makes it so much moister! Thanks everyone, but keep them coming too! 3. Hi Cathy,    Since I'm in FL I'm only visiting your area. ;o) I have registered Bryan's and my birthday at Disney (they are the same day). I really need to call and speak with a guest rep about a room and upgrading to a 3-day pass. I've only got 5 weeks left! I'm hoping we'll make it to the area by Nov 28 and stay until Dec 2.    It would be nice if I can arrange to get together with you. I'll let you know. tracy

    3. Mary, The Mustard I use is Kroger's Deli Mustard. Check the mustards in your store, if you can see the black specks it is whole grain. I once used Gulden's spicy brown but it just isn't the same. Boards Head makes one too ...it costs a bunch and believe me tastes no better than the store brand. I forgot to mention some times I add cooked beets on top of my veggies when ready to serve, not in the big bowl that I make. 3. about the new light bulbs. One of my son's changed all his light bulbs and could not believe the diff. in the bill from one month to the next with the new bulbs. He called us when it came in the mail. :) It took almost $100 off of their elec. bill!! ;) They lived out in Washington State at the time. Ever since then, that's what they use. The rest of us are following suit, one room at a time. :) Donnie still tells the kids to turn off the lights when you leave a room. ;) Kathy Piqua, Ohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "P Dyer" <pdyer53@yahoo.com> To: <padutch-life@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 22, 2009 10:28 AM Subject: Re: [PD-LIFE] Hello and the Weather Cathy and Donald, Great that you got new windows that should help the electric bill. 2. These bulbs also have to be disposed of in a strict way - cannot (or should not) toss them in the trash as the mercury will get into the land when they are crushed/buried or whatever. They should be taken to a collection site. I feel they are too dangerous in the long run and stick with the regular bulbs. I do find that I like the Reveal bulbs because they are easier on your eyes. Yum, Yum! I make a huge bowl of this veggie salad every week. It is terrific! I change the flavor by using different pickles and their juice. I am so glad to hear that some of your loved ones are progressing well. My thoughts and prayers are with them always. Keep on writing it makes my day when I hear from you all. 1. [PD-LIFE] Glad to see you all are back on line!!
    2. It's so good to hear from all of you!!  We've been away for a good share of the summer and fall!! I've missed the "back-and-forth" chats!   Mary, I'm so glad to hear that your husband is doing so well in his recovery!!  To all who have lost loved ones recently, my heartfelt prayers and condolences!!  Tracy, great news that your mom is home and doing so much better.  As her legs grow stronger and with her determination, the ability to walk again will surely happen! We have had a lot of rain again here in Vermont and the nites have been much colder than is normal for this part of October.  There has been some snow in the higher mountain areas but the Champlain Valley where we live has so far escaped with only rain!  The fall foliage has been spectacular this year!!
