    3. Right on signing the contract. The Army paid for his degree, therefore, he has a commitment that he can not terminate. If he does get "kicked out" he will have to pay back all that the Army spent on his education. It is not easy to get out of the military early, whether officer or enlisted, without getting a bad conduct, dishonorable or undesirable discharge. Even though we have an all-volunteer military, one can not opt out because they do not like the military or they oppose what is going on in the military. It is a lot different than a civilian job. The officer involved in the shooting had hired a lawyer to try to get out of the Army, but he was unsuccessful in winning his case. Don in AZ

    2. The last I heard was that the stores were charging for them, but even so, I'm sure you could find one somewhere who would be willing to part with one. Maybe they have so many people asking for them, it is a money maker in hard times. We tried to get one for our daughter doll house her Dad made her to use for floor covering and walls. Not successful. I think I will try again. WE have 2 locals right nearby and just may work this time. Small town good feelings and all. 3. Kathy I found out that it was a nurse there at her doctor's office that goofed up on her reading of the blood pressure or something. She ended up saying something to the head of the office, it ended up being the wife of the doctor too! Good person to tell, at least. And they are some of the older folks that they come in there too! But the scary thing was medication was given her, then of course it was too harsh, & she said she just stopped using it, because she could tell it was harsh, & consulted her doctor immediately! I was really concerned though, & she does have HBP, so you do want to have it monitered & glad my father-in-law said she was in bed, again, because she just went to bed & rested until she contacted her doctor, but still!! They were having her do some more tests with a mobile heart test where you wear a monitor overnight, then return it the next day, I guess! We'll hear the results, but the doctor had originally said her heart was slowing down, & may! be have to have a pacemaker for her heart, but it hasn't been decided on as yet! Thanks for your concern all. I'll keep you posted!! 1. [PD-LIFE] needles and quilting
    2. Mary Sayman
    3. Cathy, The needles on your sewing machine need to be threaded using a wire needle threader if your machine doesn't thread it for you as some of the newer machines do. The other types of self-threading needles are for hand-sewing. I also want to warn you about quilting. It is a many-step, time-consuming craft if it is done the proper way. Of course you can cut your time down by using your sewing machine, but there are still many steps and much time involved. If you hand-tie the quilt, it takes even longer. I used to help a friend of mine make quilted table runners to make extra money for Christmas (she got the money, I got paid in table runners). She has top-of-the-line machines that pretty much do everything but fix dinner and wash the dishes and if I was not helping her, it would not be something I would want to do on my own. I am one of those people who need to see results in a relatively short period of time. That's why I crochet rather than knit ( and I can do both intricately and equally well), and did only two small needle-point projects in my life. Card making can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be. I buy blank card stock and envelopes at a Dollar Store. I also buy a lot of the 'frills' for them there or on sale at craft stores. You can use buttons, ribbon, and anything else you have for decoration. Just get a bottle of good glue, a pair of scissors and you're on your way! Usually I make Christmas cards for my 'special' gifts. The nice thing is that you can buy every part you need to make them as plain or fancy as you want to get. You can order kits on line, too. If you go to a store where they sell needles and sewing items (sometimes you can even find them in a grocery or small store), you will find needle threaders. They are very tiny wire hoops that go through the eye of the needle, you put the thread end through the hoop and then pull it through. Easy. 3. Take an old worn out bra and cut off the hooks and eyes. Do the same with the one you want to fix. Stitch on the replacement hooks/eyes by hand or on a machine. If you don't have any old bras, you can buy the replacement hooks/eyes at a sewing store like Joann Fabrics. 3. I admit I collect buttons too, but don't know why! Though some of them are quite pretty, but never have sewn any on other things, just admire their beauty! Hmm, I guess there's beauty everywhere! Even in a button, & your right, they could be put on cards to decorate them! Hmm, what an idea! I might have something there! I still have my Grandma's button box. Lots of nice stuff in there. Over the years I added to it and still to this day save buttons. My mother did the same thing with zippers and hooks and eyes. I remember cutting hooks and eyes off old braziers to replace worn out ones or make extensions if there was a weight gain. My husband gets on me every once in a while to throw containers out because I save oleo tubs and Reeser's salad tubs until they are coming out of my ears to the point where they don't fit on the shelf any more. I used to save Styrofoam trays, too. I'd clean them with soap and water, then use them to repackage large purchases of meat. I guess that's why I am a packrat. I was raised at a time when we hardly ever threw anything out because some one else might have need of it; it they did, we'd have it. Those were the good old days. Thanks for the memories.
