Hi one & all, Has anyone taken notice to the NEW rules in regard to membership fees at the DCHS, which are mentioned in the newsletter: 1) Individual membership went from $20.00 to $25.00. 2) "Reduced admission" to the DCHS Library. (After you pay your membership you have to now pay to use the library.) 3) "Reduced admission" to the DCHS Lecture Series. 4) "Admission" to the annual members meeting to speak & vote. (This one is really unbelievable.) It appears some lines have been crossed here when it comes to a historical society & what it is supposed to be all about. The DCHS is not up to standard when it is compared to other county historical societies of today. Library funds/grants have been disbursed to other endeavors at the whim of "the board" -- NOT to the library. The DCHS no longer has a paid employee because of mismanagement of funds. In the 25+ years, I have been a member or on the board this is the first time this has happened. Please be very cautious that the DCHS library is not permanently closed in the near future because of the above tactics. Family genealogy is one of the greatest past times for those of us who are retired & on a limited income. It is, also, the largest hobby around the world. Are our genealogical & historical records here in Delaware County, PA, going to be held, for ransom, by this historical society? Please help boycott the DCHS by withholding membership fees &/or writing letters to the president in regard to the above matters: Merv Harris 300 Copples Lane Wallingford, PA 19086 att: DCHS membership I'm sorry, I had to be the one to bring the above problems to your attention but my goal is to make sure the genealogy & historic records of Delaware Co., PA are made available to the public under the best circumstances -- these are NOT the best circumstance! The library is the heart of a historical society -- what are these people thinking of? If you have any suggestion please e-mail me off the mailing list. Thank you so very much for any help you can give. If anyone can send their "county historical society's" membership information please send it to Merv Harris -- so it can be compared to what they are attempting to do, to us. Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) P. S. I spoke to Merv Harris, by phone & he is awaiting your letters to present to the board at the October meeting. P. P. S. Please pass this onto other interested parties.
