Kathy I descend from Susannah's sister, Elizabeth Verlenden Heaps...who married Joshua Heaps. I have also been recently in touch (since my post last week) with David Farraday..decendant of Martin and Louisa Verlneden Farraday. What is strange is that John Verlenden was supposedly Catholic and raised his daughters in the Catholic church. This is according to the genealogy of Edith Verlenden Paschall and William Lane Verlenden ll. I love talking to "cousins" to try and straighten out all the family lore. I occasionally talk to Don Verlenden, who also has shared family lore, and John Verlenden...noted writer and descendant of William Lane Verlenden. I am trying to identify Elizabeth Wood Verlenden....Susannah's mother. To date, we know that she was married in Cecil Co. in 1809. I have a genealogy that states her father was Enos Wood. There are later Enos Woods in Cecil as well as a John Wood with a daughter about Elizabeth's age in 1800 in Cecil. We are all looking for more on the original John Verlenden. I do have info that I would love to share with you. I might add that Alonzo Heaps, also worked for the Post Office as did Martha Quinn. She did work as a postmaster didn't she? Alonzo's sister, Annie, married my gggrandfather William G. Yocum. This family was a Kingsessing/Darby family for a couple of hundred years.
