    2. Hi list, I think there is some misunderstanding about the Sun Shipyard & steel foundries in the Chester area. In the 1913 Property Atlas of Delaware Co., PA "coming up" the Delaware River you have the following industries: 1. Atlantic Refining Co. (partially in Lower Chichester & Chester). (Irving St. & Clayton St.) 2. Interocean Oil Co. (all the following are in Chester). 3. South Chester Tube Co. 4. Philadelphia Suburban Gas & Electric Co. (building) 5. Delaware River Steel Co. 6. National Tube Co. 7. Seaboard Steel Casting Co. 8. Keystone Plaster Co. 9. Federal Steel Foundry Co. 10. Vulgan Works 11. Philadelphia Suburban Gas & Electric Co. (plant) 12. American Dye-Wood Co. 13. Philadelphia Quartz Co. 14. Duplex Metals Co. (became the Ford Motor Co. at the foot of Lloyd St.) 15. Formerly John Roach's Shipyard 16. New Chester Water Co. 17. Penn Steel Casting & Machine Co. 18. Consumer Ice Co. (at the foot of Market St.) The above info is from "South Chester" & the "West End" of Chester. When you cross over Market St. you are now on the "East Side" of Chester. In the 1913 Atlas, there isn't any industry along the river in this area but the Sun Shipyard will eventually be at the foot of Morton Ave., on the "East Side" of Chester. I looked in the 1934 Atlas on the East Side of Chester & there is the Chester Shipyard Co. this must have proceeded the Sun Shipyard that went on become Penn Shipyard. I no longer have my atlases, I gave them to my son. Hence, I can't do any lookups in them. Sorry. :( Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
