PA STATE CENSUS Very good question! :) The State of Penna. never did a State Census. There is a very good reference book on the state census records: "S*T*A*T*E CENSUS RECORDS" by Ann S. Lainhart. Some of the counties in the State of Penna. did take a census but Delaware County did NOT -- sorry to say. Chester County DID -- in 1842 & 1857 Census. (That I know of, there may be more.) Regarding Phila. & other cities-- I do not know. PA State Census' from Ancestry's Red Book PA never took state census but... "a series of tax lists compiled every seven years from 1799 through 1863 is commonly called the Septennial Census. These records have only survived in small numbers and are usually in the office of the county commissioner; copies available at the state archives are probably duplicates."
