1. Re: Delaware County Death Certificates.
2. Hi, To answer your questions regarding death certificates for Delaware County, PA -- there are NONE! Death certificates in PA are issued by the state & only by the state since 1906 when in that year the state first required deaths to be registered. Here is the website for death certificates: PA Vital Records Counties Info http://vitalrec.com/pacounties1.html There are death "records" on the county level, from 1893 - 1906. They are listed in a docket at the Delaware Co. Court House but NOT ALL the deaths were reported to the county in this time period. I am wondering if Parents names are available on them? I did try and find out from the courthouse itself via telephone a while back this information and to put it mildly they were most rude and unhelpful. Does anyone on the PADELAWA list visit the courthouse often and if they do would they be willing to try and obtain and mail 2 certificates to me? Needless to say I would cover all and any expenses and lunch :) I am looking for a Death certificate for Jacob Shemp died February 25th 1903 aged 88 years. Lydia Shemp (Maiden name Durborow) died January 30th 1892 aged 74 years. Both of the above are buried in Middletown Presbyterian Church. One other question I had was I am looking for a death certificate for a James Broadbent who died sometime between 1880 and 1900.Also a death certificate for an Emma Broadbent(maiden name Shemp) born 1838 PA whose death occured sometime after 1900.Is there some kind of index to the death certificates held at the Courthouse? Any Help or advice on this one would be greatly appreciated I have been struggling with this one for quite some time. I am on the left coast but if anyone on the list needs any research help in California please let me know I am a regular visitor to the FHC and Historical societys here. Ian D. Gerard. >>
