Many Civil War reenactment groups do living history presentations of selected battles, meetings, social events and other activities in the 1860s. The 97th Reg't. Pa. Vol. Inf., a modern reenactment group, has chosen to rededicate the monument to the original 97th, which stands in Marshall Square Park, West Chester, PA. The event will occur on October 27th, 2002, at 2:00 pm, the 115th anniversary of the original event. The public is invited to attend this historic event. The program follows the original one, which included music written for the occasion by Miss Nettie H. Livengood. According to Florence Williams, the event organizer, "the order of exercises" was found in the Chester County Historical Society files as recorded by the Daily Local News, October 19, 1887. Dennis Wales, the captain of the modern 97th Reg't. PVI will represent General Henry R. Guss, the founder of the regiment. Morris Farnum, Chaplin of the reenactment group will represent Rev. David W. Moore, the original Chaplin. William C. Kashatus, director of Public Programs, Chester County Historical Society will give the oration as Andrew G. Curtin, the "War Governor of Pennsylvania". Band music by Sousa of the 1887 era will be provided by the Coatesville High School Band lead by Victor Holloday. Permission has been granted to fire a salute as was done by the Griffin Battery, however, rifles rather than cannon, will be used. An attempt has been made to represent the original figures of the time and their 21st century counterparts. These include military and political figures as well as service and civic organizations. The public is invited to join us in this historic event at 2:00 pm at Marshall Square Park, West Chester, PA. Handicap parking will be available for a few cars in a nearby parking lot. Please contact Florence K. Williams (610-444-2972) for a parking card.

Does anyone know if a church in Chester called the South Chester Chapel is still in existence? I found a record of a family member who transferred their membership from Upland Baptist Church to South Chester Chapel in 1880 or 1883. The family name is MARTIN. Thanks. Tina Culbertson
I posed the question of how to index a female to the APG list. You can read several responses by accessing the list archive: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/APG/2002-09 Nancy > I always include the maiden name in parenthesis and add the > married name, > such as Pennell and Rebecca (Pyle) Peters. > > Is this "wrong", too? > > > Erin Peters

Hi Lister's, Once again I need to ask for some help! I have been attending the DCHS for a couple of months now and still can't find Daniel's father? I've located Howard Baker 39 yrs and Catherine Gallagher 27yrs. in the 1920's census and know they donated a partial of property for the firehouse in South Media. Now his parents show's up in the 1900's census John Baker 41 yrs.and Ida Markwood 34yrs. in Edgemont. Then in 1880 John's parents Daniel Baker age 49 and Tamar Sharp 42, show up in Middletown, Pa with mother-inlaw Susanna (unknown) age 63 yrs. In 1850 Tamar's parents Samuel Sharp 50 yrs and wife Susanna 47, show up with Tamar 13 and their other daughter Abigail's child age 5, Margaret Yarnall, in Willistown. My problem is not finding anything else at this point. I can't seem to find with all the Baker's in this area where my Daniel came from. The only other Daniel was a Daniel B. Baker I found in the 1860 census was 15 years old living with a Broomall family. He's too young to be mine. There's another in the Civil War records, but I don't know how to verify if he's mine or not? Can sks help me locate Daniel's parents or where he came from. I was realy hoping to pull this to the next generation that might indicate our heritage for my great aunt Agnes Baker who is 89 and two newly found distant cousins. I would appreicate kindly any help in the matter. I joined the DCHS this week after going all summer, and will probably join the CCHS as well. I've looked and Looked and in all honesty I'm getting discouraged, because with so many generations living in this exact same area I realy had hoped to find something on Daniel Bakers family. Is there anyone else searching for the Baker's in this area, Media, Middletown, Edgemont, Lima of Delaware Co or even Willistown or of some other town in Chester Co? Esther

May I suggest that you write your single digit dates as: 06 Feb 1941 That 0 in front of the 6 helps to eliminate doubt when there is a typo of an empty space leaving those reading it wondering if it should be 06, 16 or 26.

Good morning Tina, I don't know if you want to follow the directions of the basic rules in Genealogy Handbooks but they tell you to never refer to a female by her married name -- ONLY her maiden name. DALTON, Elizabeth -- this is great & I understand what you are saying! Always use capital letters (upper case) when referring to a surname. Martin, Elizabeth Dalton -- This appears to say this woman's middle name is Dalton. People will wonder who are you referring to -- the mother or daughter? They will come to the conclusion -- Oh, it's their daughter & her mother gave her, her maiden name as her middle name! If for some other reason you need to use a woman's married name it would be written as: Elizabeth (Dalton) MARTIN. The more basic you keep your information the easier it is to understand. I don't suggest you index this woman under both her maiden name & her married name. Another basic rule is to always use the European way of writing a date: 6 Feb 1941 -- not Feb 6, 1941 -- not 2/6/1941 or 6/2/1941. I hope I have been of some help -- good luck with your project! :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) In a message dated 9/11/2 7:39:46 PM, [email protected] writes: << Good afternoon List.
