The names of these patriarchs are as follows: John F. Hill aged 82; Caleb Yarnall 80; Joseph Hardcastle 83; George Hill 74; Joshua Sharpless 78; John Williamson 79; and James Howarth 68. It is not so often so many aged persons are found together.

    1. Fires, 1865
    2. Debbie
    3. November 29, 1865 DELAWARE COUNTY AMERICAN FIRES. - We have still to chronicle additional fires, and the fact that there seems to be little abatement in the crime of arson in our county. On Friday afternoon last about quarter past four o, the barn of Thomas MINSHALL, of Middletown, was set on fire, destroying the barn, a store house and wagon house, and all their contents. Over thirty tons of hay, a large quantity of straw and cornfodder, and wheat, corn and oats were consumed. The amount of insurance was $1900, which will not cover over half the loss. Also, on Sunday afternoon last about two o'clock, the barn of Israel YARNALL, occupied by his son, Chas. R. YARNALL, of Middletown, about one mile from the Black Horse tavern, was burned with all its contents, comprising over forty tons of hay, a lot of straw, and a horse valued at $175. The amount of insurance was $1086. No one was discovered near either of the these fires likely to be the incendiary, and suspicion points to no known individual. The question is generally discussed throughout the county, each man having his own peculiar opinion. The excitement is great and everywhere efforts are being made to capture to capture the incendiaries. One plan is to arrest all stragglers and suspicious looking persons, in the hope of finding the guilty. As a consequence several have been arrested during the week, and examined before Justice RIGBY, of this Borough.... Last week, in noticing the burning of Abel GREEN'S barn, in Nether Providence, we stated that some attributed the fire to friction from a threshing machine, which had been in operation in it throughout the day. We have since learned that there was no threshing done during the afternoon. There is no longer any doubt but that the fire was the act of an incendiary. The threshing machine belonged to Mr. BALDWIN, of Edgmont, who has replaced it with another.

    3. Hi Lori and Karen, Don't know if you can help me but I'm trying to forward trace a Jordan family that I know some of the members were in Delaware County until at least 1979. They are: Margaret F JORDAN (nee QUINLAN, born 1914, died 1979 Broomall Widowed around 1955 (I think). No details so far of Mr JORDAN. Her four daughters are: Margaret R JORDAN (married name LYNCH and believed to have moved to California) Dorothy JORDAN (married name GLOWACKI and last address in Ardmore) Theresa JORDAN (married name HERTZOG, last address Broomall) Nancy JORDAN (believed moved to California The information has come from the will of Margaret F JORDAN who is one of 3 daughters of our Great Grandmother Mary QUINLAN (nee DOYLE). Long story and it is rather personal so I would only really like to relate it to the relations (when found!) in the first instance. I'm in England so finding the research a nice slow process! Any information would be most gratefully received. Good luck with your own searches Regards, Sally >From: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: Jordan >Date: Sat, 1 Mar 2003 09:42:57 EST > >In a message dated 3/1/03 8:49:50 AM Eastern Standard Time, >[email protected] writes: > > > I am searching the Jordan/Jordon family. 3. Mary, I can't resist when I see your name. I am working hard on the Joseph Findlay family of New Castle Co. His wedding 1820 to Adelia Reece states that they were both of Christiana Hundred. I have searched census records so sure I would immediately spot their parents - but no luck. Their son David C m Rebecca Moore of Chester, and they are in the 1850 census in Wilmington. Lewis Findlay, a blacksmith, a brother, is also there. Does your Finley have anything to do with Findlay? I know there were Finleys in Cecil Co. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. 3. Good morning all. Yesterday I asked if anyone could help me find an obituary for Charles COBB. First, thank you to all the nice people who wrote me back and gave me info on the Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill. I REALLY appreciate it!!!!! Secondly, I now have the exact date of death for Mr. COBB and was hoping, if anyone is going to the DCHS..... could you look for his obituary for me and I'd reimburse you with money or Chick Filet coupons or something?! Here is what I know - CHARLES COBB died on May 27, 1878 and was buried at South Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philly. He was married in Philly to Catharine VAN RIPER on 20 December 1873 - then he moved, alone...for health reasons, to Atlantic City, NJ in 1878 and died there. His wife Kate used Asher & Sons Funeral Director and he was buried in S. Laurel Hill, then moved to Arlington Cemetery in 1931. Again, thanks for the help, suggestions etc. Tina in Florida
