Elias Abodeely II operated the Web sites FamilyDiscovery.com and Genseekers.com from his home. Abodeely would take e-mail addresses of people who posted to the sites' forum pages, then send the victims an offer to become a member of the Web site for a fee of $19.99 to $59.99. The offer led victims to believe they had a five-day free trial period, but they were unable to cancel their memberships. Their accounts were already debited the fee amount. Cedar Rapids police arrested Abodeely after a two-year investigation into the genealogy Web site. He also faces theft and ongoing criminal conduct charges. Police said the investigation continues, and they expect additional suspects to be charged. --part1_77.165a5335.2c5e7acd_boundary--
Hi list, (This is the first & only posting regarding this matter.) A friend of mine is doing research on St. Vincent's Orphanage. He sent me the following query, please read: [I am helping a group of people who put the story of St. Vincent's Orphanage, Drexel Hill, together. We want the names of the girls and staff that were in it in 1920 when it was located at Point Pleasant, Ocean Co., NJ. Isn't there someplace on the web I can access the 1920 census? I have searched the web without luck. I found places to get summaries and statistics of the census but not names. Although the orphanage moved to Drexel Hill, Delaware Co., PA in 1920 the census for Upper Darby had already been completed. I looked at the 1920 census at the DCHS. Any ideas or suggestions you have will be appreciated. Thanks Tom DiFilippo] I believe the info Tom is requesting will be of great help to orphans and/or their families doing genealogy research & were moved from NJ to PA. If anyone can help by doing a census lookup or in any other way please contact Tom DiFilippo at: [email protected] Many thanks! :) Happy hunting, Helen (Founder of DCGS)
For those of you who do not belong to ancestry.com or do not subscribe the newspaper service at ancestry the same papers plus a few more can be found at: www.newpaperarchives.com They offer a one day, one week, one month, quarterly, etc, subscriptions. The one day search is only $5.00. I hit the jackpot using this site by finding a marriage notice! Happy hunting.
While the link Joan sent out is a bit hard for some to link with, I think you may also find the same search available at the sister site of www.newspaperarchive.com Now, happy hunting ;) PS: This is a corrected link. Does anyone know whether Delaware County coroner records for the 19th century have survived, and if so, where they might be? I am particularly interested in inquests post mortem between 1862 and 1864. Donn Devine Wilmington, Delaware.
Bob, My grandmother's family lived on 9th or near 9th street in the 1900's to the1950's I do no know about Sun purchasing Houses but I remeber being told there was a hotel on or about 9th that was nicknamed the Sun Hotel because of Sun Oil. I will see if I can find out about the houses from my grandmother she was born in 1915 and is still with us she might have a clue. Good Luck Jacki
Greetings; Seeking information about residents lived in the 100 block of W. 9th St. and also 8th in the 1910's 20's & 30's. Evidently the Sun Co. acquired these properties and they became part of the Sun complex. My question is, where can I find out if these people were owners or renters and the year the transition took place. Also, if the Sun Co. aided in relocation. Thanks, Bob

Thanks to all who replied about the death certificates! I realized as soon as I sent that email that death certs. are at New Castle and I guess because I am trying to find info on the early timeframe of 1864 and 1870, that info would be at the local courthouse. Thanks again for all the great suggestions!! Hi, To answer your questions regarding death certificates for Delaware County, PA -- there are NONE! Death certificates in PA are issued by the state & only by the state since 1906 when in that year the state first required deaths to be registered. Here is the website for death certificates: PA Vital Records Counties Info http://vitalrec.com/pacounties1.html There are death "records" on the county level, from 1893 - 1906. They are listed in a docket at the Delaware Co. Court House but NOT ALL the deaths were reported to the county in this time period.
