Hi, folks I write a monthly history column for Main Line Today, a magazine that serves Philadelphia's western suburbs, including parts of Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties. So, I thought those on these lists might be receptive to my posting an occasional link to these stories. This month's column, "When Tech Was Young," proposes that getting excited about technology is for young people or young countries. Perhaps that's why the Main Line has Conestoga Road, but still hasn't found room for Palm Pilot Way. Check it out at <A HREF="www.markedixon.com/retrospect.htm">www.markedixon.com/retrospect.htm</A>. hello, I was born & Del. Co, but am now in Florida. Does anyone have access to city directory or phone books or property rolls for Glenolden area, middle to late 1940s? I am trying to locate a cousin- Robert Fulton, wife unknown, purchased a house there. Later his mother Clara (Taylor) Fulton moved in. I can reimburse for gas or copies. I am hoping to get wife's name. I am also interested in 736 Poplar St., Sharon Hill, ex-home of William Fulton, I would be interested in a photo if anyone lives near there. Be happy to reimburse for gas & time !!! thanks, Craig Fulton [email protected]
Gerry & List, ACM was a bit eccentric himself. He never married, had at least two degrees, yet never had 'paying job.' I believe he was knighted in England in the 50's? I have a photo of ACM standing next to his gravestone at Providence Friends Meeting House. You can read his name and birthdate, the rest is blank... creepy. But don't get me wrong ACM was a very intellegent man and dedicated to his work with the different institutions he belonged to and chaired. A regret, ACM hardly published any of his work. From decades and decades of English Quaker reasearch, he published less then ten small books and a couple of pamphlets. What he did publish is treasured. His work on William Penn is thought to be one of the largest unpublished collections. Bob Cooke
CFox, Thank you, I believe CCHS is where the initial copy came from, I'll contact them. You're probably right about the name. I thought it might be the Philadelphia Public Ledger. Bob Cooke California
Searching for marriage date of John Y King and Sarah Coakley late 1800's Yeadon, Pa ? thank you Pat Sullivan
Looking for obituary lookup of Gertrude Thompson King died March 26, 1923 Married to George King of Yeadon Pat Sullivan
I can offer something to the following posting. The list of pallbearers includes Christian C. Sanderson. Chris was sort of a poet laureate of Chester County and I encountered him during my days at West Chester State College. He looked like a Robert Frost sort of man. I have book with an except of one of his poems in it. Luckily Chris autographed it for me. So, I would surely say that the paper you are seeking would probably the Daily Local News. I believe the code "L." preceding the date stands for "Daily Local News" which is the abbreviation used by Chester County Historical Society with its great collection of newspaper clippings. You could get confirmation, perhaps, with a phone call to their library staff, who regularly please their callers with very friendly and helpful service. The number is (610) 692-4800, ask for the librarian; or visit their web site at: www.chestercohistorical.org Good luck, CFox [email protected]

Listers, I'm looking for info about an 1810 Census listing for Henry Sinix. He appears under the heading Aston Twp. (Llewellyn) My question is whether Llewellyn was a section of Aston. I have a death notice from the Dutton Records that Rachel Sinix died in 1812. She was his wife. Also his son Thomas married Hannah Llewellyn in 1814 in Phila. She was the daughter of John Llewellyn. Was he listed in any Census in Aston Twp.?He was a surveyor in the Phila Area. The Sinex family name had many spellings including Sinix,Senix,Senox. Has anyone more info for me? Olga

THANK you ladies who have responded to me about census lookup for 1850 for William Jackson! I really appreciate it!! Every bit helps with breaking the brick walls! Tina in Havana, Florida
Hi Tina, William Jackson is listed in Cecil County Maryland. The census says District 5, The 2nd Subdivision. I don't know what city it is. He and Isabella are dwelling number 609, visit number 615 page 250 (page 6 of Ancestry). He is 21 and she is 19. He is listed as a shoemaker. Both were born in Maryland. There is also an Elizabeth Cornish listed with them. She is 14 and also born in Maryland. The census was taken August 22, 1850. Karen McCunney
Hi List. Is there anyone out there who subscribes to Ancestry and would be willing to do a lookup for me? If so, please could someone check the 1850 census for both Cecil County Maryland or Chester County Pennsylvania: I KNOW my ancestor is one place or the other! His name is: William JACKSON and would be 21 or 22 years old living with his wife Isabella There first child was born in 1850 so I don't know if he would be on the census but his name is William Jackson also. I don't know what date the 1850 census was enumerated. If anyone can help me out please email me! Tina Culbertson Havana, Florida

When did Pennsylvania make it mandatory for people to register their intentions and buy a license for marriage? I have viewed the marriage film for Delaware County through the FHL but if I remember correctly it stopped about 1906-07. I do know that deaths had to be recorded from 1906 and upwards. According to Wm. Wade Hinshaw's abstracts of Quaker records from Concord Monthly Meeting, Chester (now Delaware) Co., Pa., Sarah T. Pennell was disowned (kicked-out) for joining another society ("Episcopalinns") in 1840. Probably a result of her marriage. As follows, under Pennell, pg. 216 3-17-1813 Nathan, -s of Nathan & Susanna, Delaware Co., Pa., m at Concord MM, Pa., Ann Larkin, -dt. of John & Mary of Delaware Co., Pa. Ch: Martha, b. 1/13/1814; Susannah, b. 12/1/1815; John Larkin, b. 1/28/1818; Sarah T., b. 2/26/1820 1/3/1840 Sarah T. dis for jas (Episcopalinns) Though "Roberts" is listed in the Quaker records, I didn't find a William B. Roberts. Bob Cooke
