    1. Birth & Death Cert copy increase
    2. Heads up, I just received this from another mailing list & thought it would be of importance: Hi folks ~ I went to the PA Dept of Health website to download the form to request a copy of a death certificate and, lo and behold, the fee is increasing from $3 to $9 per copy. Copies of birth certificates are going up to $10. They will accept the $3 fee per copy if it is postmarked by Dec 31st. So if you procrastinate like I do, you might want to send for them soon! I didn't know about the increase, but then I'm probably the only one that didn't! Also, could someone tell me if they will accept one check for multiple requests? I was just wondering about that, as well if I can send more than one request per envelope? This is the first time I've sent for any, so I'm not sure of the process. Thanks for any help in advance. 3. Wanda, Thank you so much for the heads up. I too have been procrastinating, but I'm going to get my out and hope we could do mulitples, for us procastintors, ;-) lol Does anyone have the scoop if you can do more then one request with one check or should we do each one separately. I would imagine though it would be easier, especially if you had a man and wife or member's from the same family so while one one in there they could bang them out all at the same time. but what do I know, I'm a newbie at the request part myself. 1. Robert COHEN
    2. Hi, I'm looking for info on a Robert COHEN, b. abt. 1914 in Long Island, NY or in Newark, Essex Co., NJ. He is still living in Haverford, PA right now. We are searching for his birth certificate & to see what social services he is eligible for. Robert is supposed to be a Harvard Graduate & was a neurosurgeon at one time. His whole family was killed in an accident in the 70's, I think. After that his life took a downward spiral. He apparently has very few resources now. We hope to find some relatives that may be able to fill in some pieces of this puzzle. Please contact me if any of you have info on this Robert COHEN or his background & family. Many thanks! :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

    1. NATURALIZATION
    2. I'm confused (as usual?) - - - - re the "first naturalization act" passed by Congress to go into effect in 1795, how did this differ from naturalizations a hundred years earlier, other than that the Colony was operating under a different type of government, either subject to England or later a free state? I am referring to a book by Carl Boyer III, "Ship Passenger Lists, Pennsylvania and Delaware 1641-1825),specifically page 15 which is headed "Naturalizations, Germantown PA 1691/92". I am assuming that to be a citizen in the colony, they took the Oath to King William and Queen Mary, but when the Revolutionary War was imminent every able bodied (or otherwise !) man had to take the Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or another of the thirteen colonies. My 8th G-gf is listed under "Naturalizations, 5May1691", along with 60 others as having taken the Oath to the King. Or am I reading a different meaning in the word "naturalization"? Dori

    1. Naturalization before the Rev. War
    2. In answer to the question: <<If a male served in the American Revolutionary War was he automatically naturalized or did they usually naturalize before they served? Thank your for volunteering your help. Karen>> From my friend Robert PLOWMAN, Ph.D., (retired from NARA): Helen, The first naturalization act was passed by Congress in 1790. It was to go into effect in 1795 since, like today, you had to wait 5 years to become a citizen. Therefore, anyone who was in the country prior to 1790 was considered a citizen of the United States. 2. Clay Fox
    3. Regarding using capital letters: > Example: James THOMAS or THOMAS, James -- NOT James Thomas. > Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) Actually, I got quite a few hits with that name. For example, California Death index: NOTT, JAMES THOMAS d. 29 Aug 1955 place RIVERSIDE b. 10 Jan 1870 place IOWA Oh wait, born in Iowa; never mind. Clay

    1. Naturalization Lookup from 1795-1906
    2. Hi list, I will do a lookup in the Naturalization Index Records: 1795 - 1860 for Delaware Co., PA (only) 1860 - 1906 for Delaware Co., PA (only) FIRST: Please place on the subject line "only one" person's name. Do NOT send me a list of names! Please put the surname in capital (LARGE) letters so I can tell if it is the person's given name or surname: Example: James THOMAS or THOMAS, James -- NOT James Thomas. SECOND: Please identify which time period: 1795 -1860 or 1860 -1906 Example of subject line: Naturalization -- THOMAS, James 1860 -1906 NOTE: Women were NOT Naturalized in this time period -- they became a citizen if & when their husband did or when they married a man who had already became a citizen or was a citizen. If a person lives in Philadelphia or Berks Co., PA they would NOT have come to Delaware Co., PA to file citizenship papers but if a person lives in Delaware Co. he may go to Phila. to file! Hence, going from the county level to the state level to file. Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

    1. re: Albert Cook Myers 1874-1960
    2. Hello Nancy, Thank you for the address of "Kentmere Lodge," I'm wondering if it would be inappropriate to write to the current owner and query if they have information of the homes past? Albert Cook Myers, b. 12/12/1874, York Springs, Adams Co., son of John Toner Myers (1850-1937) & Sarah A. Cook, (1844-1937) mar. 12/23/1873, New Chester, Adams Co. Albert C. never married and continued to live at 'Kentmere Lodge' after his parent's deaths in 1937, until he was forced out and he ended up in the Pocopson Home, West Chester, Pa., where he died April 1, 1960. Very sad. Bob Cooke
