I've had some luck with my mini digital video camera, by angling to the either side to see which gives the best combo of light and shadow in the letters, and also taking a matrix of close up shots to edit. Then when I computer edit, I have lots of different views to compare. Even so, if nothing is there, no amount of magic is going to make it appear. I have been wondering if the Infra red night shot capability might do something by showing heat emitting edges, but haven't had a chance to try it yet.
