I have been reading with interest the many E-Mails about fellow genealogist's searches for their Pennsylvania ancestors. When I began my research in earnest about five years ago, I never dreamed that I would become one of the people who comes up against a brick wall that seems impenetrable. I grew up in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, but have lived in the Houston, Texas suburbs since 1976, so I have been relying on my computer for information, which can be both magical and frustrating. I am hoping some one out there might be able to help me with my "Unknown" LINGLE. My paternal Great Grandfather was HARRY H. LINGLE, and according to the 1880 US census was born in 1855. I am relatively certain that his birth took place in Dauphin County, and most likely Harrisburg. According to my paternal Grandmother, Ruth Harriet ( Lingle) Toberman, her grandmother died soon after her father was born (November 15, 1855), and his father, my "Unknown" LINGLE, was so distraught over the death of his wife that he gave his only child to a sister. Before my grandmother died in December 1972 she gave me a lot of family memorabilia, including a Fractur announcing the birth of Lucetta GERBURICH on November 18, 1821 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Jacob and Catterina (Catherine) GERBURICH. This fractur is the only place where I have seen them spell their name this way, as it usually appears as GARVERICH. After trying to determine who raised my Great Grandfather, with no success, I decided that Lucetta might have been the sister..why else would my grandmother have had her fracture? She obviously meant something to my G Grandfather. Sure enough, I have found him living with her in Harrisburg, and at the time of the 1880 census he was 25 years old. Lucetta never married. I know that my Great Great Grandmother was HENRIETTA GARVERICH LINGLE, and she was born on March 6, 1825 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Jacob and Catherine (SCHAEFFER) GARVERICH. He was born on March 12, 1796, she in 1799, and both were born in Dauphin County. Jacob died in 1830 and Catherine on November 15, 1871. Their children were Amos, Lucetta Henrietta and Jacob. My Great Grandfather HARRY LINGLE married MARGARET BERNHEISEL, and they had three children: Ralph, Pierre and my Grandmother, Ruth Harriet. They lived in Harrisburg and in the late 1800's their address was 1611 Regina Street, Harrisburg. Margaret and Harry were both alive when my grandparents married in 1819 after my Grandfather returned from WWI. I believe Margaret died in the early 20's and Harry lived until the late 20's, at least. I do not have dates of death nor do I know where they are buried as none of my searches have yielded information. I can trace my GARVERICH roots: Henrietta (Garverich) Lingle GG Grandmother Jacob & Catherine (SCHAEFFER) Garverich GGG Grandparents GrandparentsJohn & Barbara (SCHAFFER) Garverich GGGG Grandparents Andrew & Barbara (BABB) Garverich GGGGG Grandparents Johannes (Hans) & Christine (SCHUCH) Gerberich GGGGGG Grandparents Hans Kaspar & Apollonia (VOLZ) Gerberich GGGGGGG Grandparents I can trace my BERNHEISEL roots: Harry and Margaret (BERNHEISEL) Lingle G Grandparents Peter & Hannah R. (WEBNER) Bernheisel,Jr. GG Grandparents Peter & Margaret (UHLER) Bernheisel GGG Grandparents John & Catherine (LOY) Bernheisel GGGG Grandparents Martine & Eustina (SHEARER) Bernheisel GGGGG Grandparents A note on my GG Grandmother, Hannah R. (WEBNER) Bernheisel. I have her family album that is loaded with photos which would include BERNHEISELS, LINGLES, WEBNERS & SALADAS and possibly more. Many have the stamp on the back of the photo which I believe dates them just before the Civil War. There are 60 portaits in the book. Without the first name of my GG Grandfather, I am not able to trace my LINGLE family line and unable to pass on our family history to my children and now grandchildren. I hope there is someone out there who holds the key to my "UNKNOWN." Many thanks.....Susan (Toberman) Bollfrass
