Cyrus BOOKS died in Chase Co, Kansas in 1901. His obituary states that he was born in Dauphin County, PA 16 July 1833. married 2 July 1854 (possibly in Tioga Co.) to Susan Jane Mansberger/Mansbarger who had previously been married to C. Saner/Saynor/Sainor/Sainer and who had a child Charles Saner b. 31 Mar 1852 Cyrus & Susan BOOKS had 3 children born in PA John H. Books b. 22 Jul 1855 George W. Books b 14 Aug 1857 Christina Anna Books b 2 April 1859 After that date they moved to Ohio(4 more children); Illinois(3 more children); and then Kansas. I am searching for the names of Cyrus BOOKS' father and mother. According to 1880 census, Cyrus Books' father came from Ireland and his mother from Prussia. Is there anyone in Dauphin County who might be interested in doing a little research for me? I would be willing to pay for time and expenses. One professional genealogist I contacted did not think any records from 1833 would be available - except possibly church or land records. If anyone has any suggestions or is interested in researching Cyrus Books for me, please contact me at [email protected]
Hi Maxine, Have you gone through the 1850 census of Dauphin County? I see there are quite a few BOOKS listed in Dauphin County in that year (20), but no Caleb Books. He may have been living at home with his parents in this year as he would have been about 17. Yes, I have checked the all the census records. The name "Cyrus Books" is not as unique as I originally thought. There were 2 men with the same name in the Civil War - one from Ohio who died during the war and one from PA who survived and returned to live in PA. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Parker & Trisha Todd" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 12:56 PM Subject: Re: [PADAUPHI] surnames BOOKS/Mansbarger/Saner > Hi Maxine, > > Have you gone through the 1850 census of Dauphin County? Maxine: I don't have the data you are looking for, but the following is from my web page on the Sunset cemetery, where Jacob BOOKS is buried. You most likely have the following, but Doris and Mame Menear are related, and Dale WEAVER'S mother was a Books. They may be able to help. CEFies Doris Dougherty: Thanks for the 'Books' references. I did not have any information on the brother relationship of Cyrus (Sirus) and Jacob Books. From the pages of "The Chronicles of Middletown", by C. H. Hutchinson - 1906: Pg. 192 - Company G, Thirty-Fifth Regiment (Sixth Reserves, Three Years' Service) John D. Books, Corporal April 18, 1861; transferred to 191st Regt., P.V., May 31, 1864; veteran Pg. 233 - Middletown Volunteers in the One Hundred and Ninety-First Regiment John D. Books, Corporal, Co. F, May 31st, 1864; captured, mustered out with company, June 28, 1865; veteran Pg. 204 - Middletown Volunteers in the Ninth Cavalry Jacob R. Books, Private., Co. C., Oct 11, 1861; 3 years; killed accidentally at Louisville, Ky., September 9, 1862. (Tombstone in Sunset Park/Golf Course Cemetery - C.E.F) Pg. 246 - Middletown Cavalry - Emanuel Books, Private Pg. 249 - Middletown Home Guards, Third Company - Emanuel Books, Private Pg. 248 - Middletown Home Guards, Light Infantry - Siras Books, Private. The above listings are the only information on the Books in the C of M. Doris Menear Dougherty's notes on 1-20-2001 indicate Cyrus & Jacob were brothers. Dale Weaver's mother ESTHER BOOKS WEAVER has some family information. Maxine D. wrote: > Yes, I have checked the all the census records.
